6. RELIGION: Russians kept Byzantine patriarch during the conquest of Constantinopol by turks, this extending the existance of the Orthodox Church.

turks anytime annex the orthodox church.and the orthodox patric any time gone away the ctanbul.sultan2.mehmet gave the relion peach agrement after the concuest of istanbul you can see this argement at the topkapi palace

+himmm russian have great leaders like stalin like lenin who killed over than 40 million of ukranian, kazakian, tatarian exc

7. Russians WON the second world war and SAVED many MILLIONS of non-german people from being killed by Hitler.

not only russians with americans englanders
femalerunnetka | 17 December 2004 - 1:20am
ehh gotta agree with the opinion above, it is not just Russian keeping Orthodox brunch - and yeah, i think that Russia is quite a cuontry of contrasts. The Russians have the tendency to exaggerate some stuff about the war and forget about the other countries - of course their help was not that huge but you should not forget to point it out - other way it might cause you some offence, though foreign people do not seem to share our point of view about being the winners and destroyers of Hitler, at all (American history studies book in schools do not even point out the Russian role in the war).

it is an off-topic!

I think the best Russia gave to this world are the beautiful music and dance.
maleviva_peron | 23 March 2005 - 11:12pm
My list about positive things, Russia gave to the world, is very long, and my Russian friends surely merit it:

Great writers like Tolstoi, Dostojewski (The Player), Tschechow (Wurdelak), Gontscharow (Oblomow)

Famous componists like Tschaikovsky and Rachmanioff or very talented singers like Schaljapin, a fascinating art, for example the wonderful paintings and mosaics in orthodox churches (the icons) as well as many films which are real masterpieces of cinema. I know the following films of Russian / ancient URSS cinema:
Battleship Potemkin (SU, 1925, Sergej Eisenstein)
Good bye Matiora (SU, 1960ties)
The female Commissioner (SU, 1967, with Nana Guterova)
Solaris (the original version, SU 1973)
Warlam (SU, 1984, Georgij Abudanidse)
Letters of a dead man (SU, 1984, Konstantin Lopushanskij)
The Satan (RUS, 1991, Viktor Aristov)
Children of the Storm (RUS, 1994, Sulambek Mamilov)
Derzou Ouzala - The last Taiga hunter (RUS / JAP 1997, based on the diaries of Major Viktor Asenjew)

Russia also brought the world famous scientifists like Sacharov, a very successful space programm actually guaranteeing the existence of the International Space station (ISS).

Not to forget about all those famous Russian chess players, like Aljechin, Bogoljubow, Botwinnik, Tal, Petrosjan (he was Armenian, but world champion for the URSS), Spasskij, Kortschnoj, Karpov, Kasparow etc.

The reconstructed Amber Room is really a unique work in world's history, as well as the original was. German journalists are convinced, that the copy is so perfect, that it can be considered as the new original. The first amber room unfortunately was lost in the Battle of Königsberg (Kaliningrad) by the end of WW II. Stolen by Germans from St. Petersburg in 1941, the Amber Room was divided into pieces and put into wooden boxes, which were hidden in the cellar of the Königsberg castle, burned down after Soviet artillery fire at the beginning of 1945.

I also want to mention here, that Russia brought to the world millions of sympathic, polite, helpful and open-minded people. Although I am a posterior of two German war criminals involved in crimes against humanity in Russia and Ukraine, I am always welcome, as people recognize my efforts for reconciliation of our countries and judge me about my own attitude, not about the ones of ancestors fallen in URSS in 1942/43.

According to the latest opinion polls, the Germans are more popular in Russia then they are in most of the EU member states. On a scale going from 0 to 150 points (best), the Russians gave us 135 ones. From the French, always considered as the best friends of the Germans, we got 118 points, third ranking after Sweden having given us 125 pts. Denmark (105) and Israel (65) put us at the end of the scale, as if the Germans of our days were responsible for WW II or Holocaust.

The new German-Russian friendship is really a present for Europe, as it is promoting peace, democracy, political stability and economic and cultural exchange on the continent.

Russia, thank you very much for having brought the world so many wonderful people, really knowing what friendship and trust mean!
Hendrik

I just wanted to add to my long list all those famous sportsmen and sportswomen Russia brought to the world, e. g. many great football players like Lew Jaschin, best goal keeper of all the times next to the German Toni Turek, the top forward Oleg Blochin etc.

In the Olympic Games, Russia always has been the leading nation and kept this position even after the URSS was dissolved.

The Russian tennis is really impressing and Maria Sharapova the Tennis Mastress of the Universe, sweeping one adversary after another from the tennis court, that the contrahent finally thinks, a storm had come over her!
