i don't know Bradman. Ian Thorpe sounds good... as long as it's not Lleyton Hewitt, I'm okay

sweta, nah certainly not hewitt. when he wins the aussie open i'll consider him bradman is the greatest ever australian cricketer, well that's the thought for most people. he averaged 99.94 (i think it was) in test innings. noone has ever even come close to that.

malewombatluva | 29 September 2007 - 2:28am

A few too many Aussies in their own sports to try and pick one I think Confused

So!
Motor Racing = Peter Brock & Sir Jack B
Tennis = Rod Laver & Evonne Goolagong/Crawley
Swimmer = Leisel Jones & K Perkins
Netball = Vicki Wilson
Athletics = Betty Cuthbert by a country mile
Nrl Player = Wally Lewis & Andrew Johns
Afl Player = Peter Diacos & That Carlton bloke who married that Model...Stuffed If I can think of it?
Cricketer = Don B.... Followed closely by R Ponting and Glenn Mc
Horse Racing = Trainer, has gotta be smithy: & Jockey, Damien Oliver: Horse, Phar Lap
Union = George Gregan
Hockey = Rick Charlesworth & the Oz womens Hockey team
Soccer = Harry Kewell

And thats just to name a few Very happy

i agree with most of those wombat, although in tennis Pat Rafter was awesome, NRL Brad Fittler of course and in the Union well, they're not asgood as the all blacks

femaleunpredictable_mortal | 7 October 2007 - 3:29pm

I have always been supporting Patrick Rafter when it comes to tennis due to his great sportsmanship and his ability to maintain his cool whenever he is under pressure. He should be a role model to Leyton Hewitt!

The Greatest has to be Sir Donald but others are
Ken Rosewall (12 grand slams)
Murray Rose/Shane Gould ( swim)
Michael Doohan/Wayne Gardner...did wonders for Aust motorcycle racing
Terry Lamb...The greatest League player and 5/8th to grace our fields...
And lets not forget indoor sports...Eddie Charlton(snooker) and Walter Lindrum(billiards) how unreal were they to watch...

Just to add a bit more to this subject Thumb up

Personally!!!! I think the Parents, Official’s, Coaches, Referees & Touch judges etc, you know, the ones who put in hours of FREE time to help with our kids in all sports & I mean all the kids and all the sports of this nation.
You are all bloody CHAMPIONS in your own special way, but sadly the ones in the back ground BUT you haven’t been forgotten you Thumb up
As we are aware there is probably only sum 0.001% that make it to be our gold medal champion swimmers, footy player etc etc etc.
So from me, Very happy if you are out there Confused and you read this Friend
This is big ozzie pat on the back Friend and a big (ON YA) for your fantastic efforts Thumb up
