...I am going to take International Tutoring-course on summer, when few dozens of Singaporean students visit our university. I would like to hear something about Singaporean culture. Like for example how do you greet? Do you call people usually with first or last name in formal/informal occasions? And are there any subjects you should not discuss or some gestures you should not make? And I'm open to hear anything from your culture, please.

Don't spit around them.

Maybe that is a good advice, but I guess no one would like it. How about some more information, please?

Singapore is a muti-racial country so our people don't have much problem with socialising. There are three main races: Chinese, Malay & Indian. If a chinese named Mr Tan Chee Ping, you may call him Mr Tan (surname) formally. But he may addressed as Chee Ping as well. Malays are muslims so their full names end with Bin (son of) someone or Binte (daughter of) someone e.g. Aziz Bin Osman, just call him Aziz and not Bin Osman because they don't have surnames. So when people mention Bin Laden, they are actually referring to Osama's father and not the terrorist himself (stupid mistake that westerners aren't learning). Indians are also similar e.g. Sivabalan S/O Balakrishna, you may address him as Mr Siva in short. Other than that, we are open to talk about anything under the sun!
