What is the national dish of Argentina?
What is it made from? what is it called? Is your food similar to the U.S.? Mexico? is it mostly meat? I have heard that Argentinians eat a lot of beef.

Thank you conservative Bush/McCain Republicans for global warming, the use of food (corn ethanol) in the gas tanks of SUV's causing famine all over the world. resulting in slow death for all life on earth. Thank you for urban sprawl, the non-stop building of new homes that no one wants, and the destruction of all farmland to build the new homes with illegal labor from south of the border that you won't protect. Thank you for trying to destroy Social Security and medical care for all Americans, great bunch of guys, oh did I mention the non stop wars to support conservative republican arms and ammunition manufactures?
Its some kind of steak I am sure. And I heard about chimichurri, but I am not sure what it is.
Well it's common here to eat asado on sundays. It's a kind of bbq taking specific meatcuts from the cow.
There is also another typical dish called empanadas. It's a sort of burrito but not spicy (that depends on who cook them) with meat, vegetables, cheese or corn or anything you can put inside.

The chimichurri is a spicy sauce with secret ingredients (actually I have no idea of what it's made of, but it's great) used on the asado.
I'm not a great coocker... but I can offer you spaghetti.
I have heard of empanadas, we have them in a restaurant in the Kansas City, Missouri area. With the new trade between South American and North American Argentinians amoung other south Amrican countries are moving into my area. I love to try different foods and the food from Argentina sounds very good to me.

My favorite tipical argentinian dishes: Assado de Costillar (nice rib cut), Chinchulines (grilled small intestine), Mollejas (grilled thymus), Hot Meat Empanadas and Morcilla (blood sausage).
These dishes harmonize very well with a good Malbec or Tempranillo from Mendoza.

Well, I have to say that asado it's not the most typical Argentina's dish cause you can eat , for instance, as many meat in Argentina as in Uruguay. Besides I've recently heard that the meat in Brazil tastes now better than in Argentina. It's a little dissapointed for us but the true..our best quality meat comes to Europe.
Anyway we have many typical dishes, most of them are in the north of the country prepared, as locro (it's a kind of soup with corn, pork sausages, beef, onions, and bacon), "tamales" and some types of baked snacks to eat with the Mate as "bizcochitos" or "cuernitos de grasa" or quince filled crescents known here as "pastelitos de membrillo o batata".
We prepare sometimes a typical dessert called "vigilante" witha slice of cheese and a slice of this paste of quince or "membrillo". Anybody know the story of the vigilante? :-)
In the south of the country it's possible to eat meals with different sort of meat, for instance, the traditional mapuche's meal called "curato".
A typical souvenir of Buenos Aires are little cakes filled with toffee cream called "alfajores de dulce de leche", there are "conitos" too and many other sweet things filled with this milk caramel.

To be honest, I have no idea where you can find malt extract in the USA. In fact, if I were you, I'd post the same msg in the "Food and drink" Channel, there are many food fans and even from the USA.
Anyway the malt extract is used to prepare beers and some kinds of breads so it's possible that you find it in some health food stores.

It is not WHAT you give, but HOW you give that counts!
Well, There are empanadas filled with a wide variety of ingredients such as beef, chicken, vegetables, cheese and onion, ham and cheese, tuna fish, corn (it's called Humita in Argentina) and even dulce de leche!
Most common variety contains beef.
