Tidying up before visitors come round to your place?

Do you need to do a lot of tidying before you have guests? Or is your house etc..always looking totally neat.

Erm... it depends which parts of the house we let them see. ^^;

The living room and front entrance is always clean.. the kitchen table--never... my room--don't go there unless you want to never emerge!

Well... we've gotten pretty used to it. It's not that bad. Plus it's better to clean things off every now and then.

@ yuna: I'm glad to read I'm not the only one with a kitchen table that attracts things (like piles of papers)!

That is so funny that my house would be clean all the time. Razz When I was a child my mother thought I was obsessive-compulsive because I cleaned her house all the time, really I can't handle a messy room; it's so distracting.

Little by little I have learned to try to deal with having a bit of a mess (as opposed to dirtiness), because trying to chase after a four-year-old and keep a place sparkling is like trying to rake the beach. I'm constantly going between my need to give him attention and my difficulty with distractability from surrundings. I've gotten better!

So, yes, when company comes over, I very often indeed find myself scrambling to get the place presentable.

Usually its not too bad.

femalethe thing | 17 July 2007 - 11:45am

@ Chana...No. You can't have a 4 year old AND a totally tidy house at the same time. It would be impossible.

Actually, it's pretty neat over here. Tho I still tend to tidy things up for guests. However that depends on who's comin actually Smile

since I'm not really a fan of tidying up I mostly have a mess in my rooms. so I have to clean up before guests could enter my living area - if not they would be shocked Smile
speaking of it, I did it today and it took the hole day to tidy up our 3 rooms because tomorrow I've invited some friends for a barbecue...

femaleit_wasnt_me04 | 21 July 2007 - 6:36pm

i can't stand dirtiness. yuck. but at the same time my room is always messy. i like to move things around, touch it all. kinda hyper. so no, they could come over unexpectedly and i wouldnt feel embarrassed.

My house needs intensive cleaning and tidying before receiving any guests.

Hmmm, well I guess I have "my tidy" and "visitor tidy"...the latter being a lot more intensive in the cleaning stakes.
well not cleaning....dirt is always a no-no...but a bit of clutter always needs to be dealt with before visitors arrive.

People usually just turn up unannounced, so there's no chance to tidy up. But anyway, if they don't like it they can lump it! It's not horrendously messy or anything anyway.

My house usually is pretty clean and neat , except before guest coming to my house , i would prefer to give my house one last touch .. such as .. make sure the coffee table has no marks from 3 years old grubby hands ( my son ) with his finger prints on it .. and i want the pillows on the couch set the right way .. i usually vacuum my house before guest coming even though i vacuum the day before i would still vacuum it again ..

femalebluma | 4 January 2008 - 11:06pm

I guess it is fairly neat.. but i do throw things in the closet if people are coming over and lock the cats in bedroom otherwise they would be all over guests especially ones who dont like cats. ".."

Generally it's tidy but sometimes there are some things to be put away.

femalepeanut2000 | 22 March 2008 - 12:21am

there is always something to do when you have a 7 year old that makes a mess lol

femalemarthaluv | 24 March 2008 - 11:43am

I used to clean up quite well before any guests entered my flat but since my boyfriend moved in with me it's always such a chaos that it's not any use to clean up that much.. I've had to get used to having a messy flat .. and the guests will have to get used to that, too! Very happy

Having visitors is usually the best motivation for doing some tidying up. Just need to know in advance they're coming 'cause hearing the door bell suddenly just doesn't give me enough time.
