Greek Temple architecture
Hi..
I like very much Greek Temple architecture. I know that the temples of ancient Greece were the biggest and most beautiful and they had a political purpose as they were often built to celebrate civic power and pride. Maybe i have a wrong information...
We have one temple in Armenian in GARNI look like Greek temples.
I want to know meaning of three architectural systems(Doric, Ionic, Corinthian)... maybe they have some history.
Thanks.

In a way there's a socio-political meaning behind these architectural constructions.
In many occasions, ancient greek temples were built in predominant locations (i.e. hills, coasts etc.).
As an exemple (or two), the Parthenon temple (hill) "supervising" the city of Athens, but also the temple of Poseidon in cape Sounion (coastal hill-near Athens) "supervising" the Aegean sea. They (among many others), constitute "emblems" and very strong (in signification) "landmarks" of a given region.
As for the three architectural forms (Doric, Ionic, Corinthian), the english bibliography is referring to them as "orders" = organized and well structured building patterns, or ,in greek "ρυθμοί"= "rhythms"=
a sequence of (building) elements in this case. If there's a special meaning behind them, well, I can only tell that's an aesthetics evolution through the centuries(doric is imposing and heavy, corinthian is more sophisticated and "human friendly")

Those are not systems but styles; Doric style is the oldest, then came Ionic and then Corinthian
. I believe they only had a religious function, not political
