Yes,a dog but he was very ill so it was really better for him

maleHamo | 30 July 2007 - 9:20am

Nope.. not yet..
One thing.. maybe you could have put the NINE new threads you just made in a row into just one topic about pets and animals?.. or maybe.. you just want your postcount up?

maletroebel | 30 July 2007 - 11:20am

yeah... 4 times.
we had 3 cats, first one was about 12 years ago
She got hit by a car.. her pelvis was broken she could have survived but my parents didn't have money for the surgery.

second one was about 9 years ago.. died of age

and the last cat about 7 years ago was very ill. vets didn't know what was happening they searched for answers for over a week and were not able to find anything, so my parents decided to put her to sleep

and the fourth was our dog.. a german shepard, 3 yeas ago. he was about to make it to his 13th birthday the dog had trouble with his hips, couldn't walk normal anymore so we put him to sleep too

all 3 cats were hard because all the cats had been around even before I was born, but the dog came from the dogpound and became part of the family when i was already out on my own.. in two years the dog made such an impression it was like we had him all his life, so that one was the most difficult for me..

Yes...I did...for my 14 year old dog last year..
It was horrible.. but probably not like you think. She was suffering so badly that I couldn't get to the vets soon enough.
Seeing them suffer is the most unbearable part...and not being able to do anything else for them but put them to sleep.
They've always trusted you...so you have to have the wisdom to do the right thing for them... when the time comes..
I have a 13 year old...a little arthritis now...but he is getting long in the tooth ...and I do dread losing him no matter how it goes..
I would prefer he pass away in his sleep though.

several over the years, last year 2 dogs and one horse Sad it never gets easier but dont let your pet suffer if its time to say goodbye.

remember the good times and be happy you had them together....

femaleserenity_1 | 30 July 2007 - 11:13pm

yep i had to take my dog to be put to sleep, she had some sort of stroke and couldnt stand up properly anymore plus her heart was failing - she was 15 years old thou so a good age and i didnt wanna prolong her pain and suffering - it was awful to have to do but she looked up at me as if to say thanks as i stroked her when she was injected, then they left me in the room with her so i could cry alone with her - then i brought her body home, wrapped her up in her basket so she looked like she was sleeping and allowed the children to see she was at peace and in a long, deep sleep ... then we buried her in our garden

Unfortunately, yes, two of our dogs about two years apart had to be put to sleep. I fear the day when I will have to face the fact that some of our current dogs will reach the age and condition when their life will be too intolerable to live.

malefalling_fenix | 6 August 2007 - 4:23am

Yes, when i was younger. Hamsters, rabbits, and my beloved Peter the rabbit. He lived for so long........until when i was a teenager. That was sad.

Yea... my dog had a cancer and the surgery did nothing but harm.
I cried for weeks, she was only approx. 7 years old, cute, little poodle. And I loved her to bits.

femalembridgew | 8 August 2007 - 4:23pm

Yes. Just couple of weeks ago we took our old dog to a vet and he found tumors from her stomach. We were asked to think about what we would like to do with her. It was awful evening to know we need to take her to the vet and look in to her innocent eyes..

WOW......that brought a few tears to my eyes.....Max is only 3 and a half.....but I can certainly understand the love one has for their pets Smile

Sadly now I have experienced this - yesterday (10/10/07) I had to put my cat to sleep as he had cancer. He was in our family for 16 nearly 17 years and it absolutely broke my heart. I cried all day yesterday and I still can't believe he's gone and he's not coming back. I miss him so much.

yes, 2 times. The first one was a cat which was really old (22 yrs). She had lived her life so it wasn't that bad actually even tough she was the most lovely and friendly cat u can ever imagine! (she behaved like a dog and really enjoyed taking walks with me) The second time was my dog who also was old. My current cat who only is 11 yrs. is very ill from now and then (he won't eat sometimes) I've thought about going to the vet and put him to sleep but some days he feels better and I think that he actually know that the thought of getting rid of him crosses my mind sometimes and he looks at me and really tries to eat and then I just can't do it. I just can't put him to sleep when he tries to survive so badly. However, it's always hard to say goodbye to a pet but life goes on believe it or not..

not yet ... but I am afraid it will happen anytime soon ... It is just a matter of days, maybe weeks ... Last week we went to the doctor with my dog (she is 14) and he constated that she has cancer ... at the moment she isn't suffering that much, but when she starts to suffer from it, it is better for her to let her sleep in, although I know it would cause me a rough time ... she is the only friend in my life and I would be totally lost without her ... we did everything together ... From sleeping to eating ...

My mother's cat, aged 13 years old, had to be put to sleep in 1998 because she had a form of feline cancer. She faded away very quickly, in the space of about a month.

I got very upset about it and still do sometimes. If anyone dared say to me (and luckily, no-one has to date), "Oh, it's only a cat - get over it!", then I'm sorely tempted to give that person a severe bollocking. Anyone who says "It's only a cat/dog/fish/whatever" must have something seriously lacking from their souls.

A cat may not be human, but it's a living creature with intelligence, and it's also a part of the family.
