And Also I'm travelling alone.. So.. I was hoping maybe some of you might be able to give me some advice... Especially if there are any customs or.... things Very happy where I might accidently come across as rude or something... cause that would be bad I think..

Come to tartu:P will have a big celebration;)

maleSkyPiercer | 23 August 2007 - 9:24pm

I think that Estonians are living like another place in Europe or a western country !
(Thank you globalization ! Laughing )
Hmm...You're looking a bit anxious, Don't worry Estonians don't bite ! Smile

An advice ? Let me guess : If you cross a political subject with an Etsonian don't hesitate to make a fierce critic of President Vladimir Putin and Russians in general Very happy

Ahah.. Yes.. well, I already know how Most Estonians feel about him... ;D
But thanks... and yeah.. well Globalisation and all yep.. but just incase I'd missed soemthing, being on the other side of the world....

femalenine_inch_crow | 24 August 2007 - 5:18am

Well, I suggest not to touch the politics subject at all. Razz Tallinn is the capital yes, loads of things to do. But Tartu is the place to visit as well! I myself live in Viljandi, which is a very nice place to live, but for a tourist, it can be a bit boring. BUT if you're a nature man, you should visit Viljandi as well, since near here, we have a great swamp land, which is breath taking beautiful and castle ruins and such.

Ahh yes...well I think last thing I wanna do is stir people up... and Yeah, I'm a nature guy.. I'm not really interested in alot of those"tourist" places... I like the more secluded places and.. yeah Smile see what the country is really like...
But I'm Most interested in the Nature Wink
Thanks alot for the advice

maledeng | 24 August 2007 - 10:48am

Just been there, in Tallinn only, and then hitch hiking through. Tallinn is over-touristic, but still great. open minded people, if they are not Russian, then they speak great English, which makes life easy, cause my Estonian isn't all too well. As some estonians told me: relax!
Take your shoes off when going into a house.

What are the laws with bikes in Estonia..... Are they just treated like a car.... or can you ride on a footpath?

female_skiso_ | 25 August 2007 - 7:30pm

but sometimes you dont know that you have stepped into a dogshit Very happy then you wont take your shoes off and you will make your floor very dirty Very happy

well..generally you can ride where ever you want (in smaller towns) Very happy but when you´re in tallinn..then dont ride on footaths when there are too many people (i have never seen anyone riding on them when they are crowded) but when it´s empty..then why not Very happy i dont think they control it so much Wink and i guess they are more treated like cars...blah..i dont know anything about bike laws..

maledeng | 26 August 2007 - 12:11pm

Have people outside Benelux never heard of cycling paths? If you don't have that, then you should ride on the street. also in Tallinn it's ok to do so. i'd say it seems quite safe in Estonia to ride a bike.

Yeah sure.. Lots from you Very happy:D
But you can tell me when I get there Very happy

femalemelc15 | 29 August 2007 - 10:43am

Estonia has developed. Near my summer cottage, which is about 30 min ride with bus from central city, is being built cycling path. Bigger cities do have already those, especially in parks and some roads also..
If you visit Estonia I suggest to visit Southern and Western part of Estonia, if you are a nature guy, as you said;)
Though every part of Estonia has it´s great beauty spots. I visited Saaremaa last weekend and it was awesome. Saw places and castles that i had never seen before.

Defenetly would reccomend you to go and see Taevaskoja;) But ofcourse you should plan your trip ahead, where to go, where to stay, etc.

Just curious, why Estonia?Very happy At this time of year?

maleHamo | 29 August 2007 - 11:08am

Ehm. well, I'm not booking much ahead at all, I like to feel free... Not having deadlines and all that, So... It's more of an Adventure that way too... And I'm way to lazy to book ahead anyhow.
Thanks alot for that advice, I'm going to be going all around Estonia I think.
Why Estonia? Why now?
Well. I've made a great friend who Lives in Estonia, and from that I've also Heard alot about the country.... It's less expensive than alot of other european countries it seems, It's flat... And... It's also not a huge Tourist Destinatoin Like some places... I think It'll be a bit more out of the way and quiet, which is 'what I like. It also Has alot of Nature.. Which I like, and all that.. Soo... Yes.. That's why Estonia... And why Now?
Well, It was kinda Now or Not for a long time... and I want to challenge myself, so It's not winter.. but it might be a bit cold, which will make it more interesting.... I hope that makes sense.. but.. alot of stuff that goes on in my head makes no sense at all to others Very happy

Thanks Again for the advice, I'll remember those places, and I'm hoping to go to Saaremaa... Do you know how much a ferry ticket would cost with a bike?

femalemelc15 | 31 August 2007 - 3:49pm

Hehe. Adventure trips are the greatest. Had one in Saaremaa:P Just drove and saw places:) Estonia is truly a place to come and see and love at first sight to places you go is guaranteed. Here are so so so many places that i have been to, but as many places that i have not discovered for myself.

Looked up, ferry ticket for a bike costs 15 krones.

Have fun here;)

maleHamo | 31 August 2007 - 3:54pm

15 krones... that's cheap Very happy
Well, its like, two and a half hours untill I have to leave for the Airport Shocked I'm so scared Very happy
