Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to announce his retirement from football today after struggling to overcome knee injuries in recent years.

Norwegian forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose most famous goal was probably Manchester United's winner in the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich, that clinched the treble for the Red Devils, has been forced to retire from playing by the persistent knee injuries that have plagued his career in recent years.

He has made several comebacks during the course of the last four years but has failed to overcome the problem completely.

And according to The Sun, the 34-year-old, who has not appeared in any of

United's matches so far this season, will call it a day in his long-running

battle to recover fully from injury.

Solskjaer's last game was May's FA Cup final - a 1-0 defeat by Chelsea on May 19th when he came on as a substitute in extra-time at Wembley.

He has already coached United's youngsters, and is looking forward to working in football after his playing career is over.

Nicknamed the 'Baby-Faced Assasin', the Norwegian international joined United from Molde for a fee of £1.5million in 1996 and soon became a popular figure at Old Trafford.

Last season Solskjaer won his seventh Premier League winners' medal, scoring 11 times in United's successful bid to reclaim the title.

His hero status at Old Trafford is ensured with an outstanding record of 126 goals for United in 366 appearances.

Solskjaer was appointed a club 'ambassador' last year - a role he is expected to continue and develop - and it is thought could be given a coaching position at United.

Couldn't miss that in the newspapers here today..... However, never been a fan of him, after all, he did play for both Molde and Manchester United......

Its a shame the last few season he has been injured so much. He did get some games last season as United won the title but then he was injured again.

That goal he scored in the 1999 CL final against Bayern is one of the top goals I have ever seen.
