Well, I am not sure how to ask, but I mean how many percent is Chinese, how many percent is Indians...
I have heard that Vietnamese people have been accumulating quite a lot there.

You are right zoom1018, there are more vietnamese here for the past few years. Beside vietnamese there are chinese from China here for study and work. Also many Indonesian and Philipinos. Singapore is densely populated like Hongkong! The percentage is about 70% chinese. Indian not so much. You should visit Singapore again, so different now. ![]()

Populations in 2006, were 76% Chinese, 14% Malay, 8% Indian. And official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.
Malaysian is one of the two official language there, or not?
I think Singapore has been trying to boost mandarin in schools, that is what I heard of.

I have a Berlitz pocket guide, and it says English is designated as the administration language, and Malay is the national language. ![]()
Everyone speaks English except for a minority group of older generation perhaps. Even those who did not attend full education can speak basic English.
Singapore was once part of Malaysia before 1965. At the time when it splits, Singapore still maintains Malay as its national language till now (more as a cultural heritage rather than usage). The national anthem is in Malay.
Chinese forms the majority of population. Recent "Speak Mandarin" campaigns were held perhaps because the younger Chinese generation use English more often as their first language. Other races also started to use English mainly as the nation gets more educated. So there's a need to preserve our cultures with such campaigns.

Ten years ago, I went to Singapore and I hardly found a Vietnamese person apart from the group I travelled with. Things changed as I have heard from a friend after her visit to Singapore on a business trip over 2 months ago that there have been more and more Vietnamese people living, working and studying there. It looks like Singapore will be like Hongkong as I saw so many Vietnamese people there, legally and illegally! However, in Singapore, the first case stands, I guess.
