I grew up near the first Polish community in Canada..Wilno, Ontario (pronounced Vilno) I am also Polish. Has anyone heard of this place or have relatives there? They are also Kashubec Polish.

Laughing When i was in Vilnius (Lithuania) I was in the middle of a fight between a Polish girl, claiming the place as Polish, and some Lithuanians;

Yup, I did. Hmmm... also a funny part was that the Polish girl was staying as a guest for a few nights, with those Lithuanians she was fighting with. So i wonder who won in the end.

Don't know, but would have loved to be a fly on that wall. I understand a lot of Polish, especially swear words... Very happy

They weren't fighting in Polish. The people from Vilnius didn't know it, they speak Lithuanian. So the used language was English. And even in English, they were funny. :-)

I find this discussion as naive and to the detriment to the positive connection between Poland and Lithuania. Vilnius is a capital of a sovereign state, which in Polish language is pronounced as Wilno
(or Vilno if you like)
For details of creating the Duche of Lithuania, as well of the further Commonwealth between the two countries you can read more in Free Wikipedia or on other websites.
The Polish minority in Lithuania has best conditions to learn and speak Polish and beeing there I was always meet friendly and without any hostility.
Therefore I suggest to close this topic, especially on Polish channel

The topic I posted was a very genuine question about my heritage and I was inquiring if anyone had connections to this town in Canada. I do agree the topic wasn't answered to the way it was intended and had went off topic. I don't know much about Poland at this point, but would love to learn more. If you don't have anything to add about Wilno, Ontario Canada, its not up to you to decide what stays and what goes.
Many came from Warsaw, Poland and settled in this Canadian town.
I hope this post I posted will remain until I can find out any information about my relatives.

Tosiek, it's a normal question, no. you can't censor people because some can't read or handle a question; In that case, you have to change the people who can't handle it. is i wrote above, and it is genuine, I did witness such a fight. (not physical) And i can only advise some to accept life.
Anyways, this is about Wilno, Ontario, and that seems to be in Canada.

I never heard of that town in Canada before, but I know that there are many Poles (and also Lithuanians) living in Chicago, in the United States.
