American Deserters

Should Canada be a sanctuary country for American Deserters? Canada has been expelling them as I feel they should. Keep in mind they are not draft dodgers. These are people who signed up for the goodies the military offers. But come tail tween legs to canada when the going gets tough. Wag the dog

Sure, bring them all in...there's lots of room in the Arctic. Smile

truthfully I don't think we need deserters - i can understand draft dodgers and I'm fine with that but they willingly signed up, though at the same time I can understand why they would want to have to go back, but whatever to each their own, and providing they pay their taxes get a job and don't start trying to live off the government I don't really give two shits either way.

so long as they head for canada and not australia i am fine with that also, we have enough living off the government now

Call me ignorant if you like, but I wasn't aware that there were that many US Military Service men defecting to Canada in this decade. I guess I should watch the news more, but I don't. I work for State Government in Indiana and finally got sick of seeing nothing but bad news on TV & the papers. So I quit watching it years ago & live a rather isolated life. I do however have this to say about the draft dodgers of the Vietnam War era. Many thousands of American citizens were chosen to serve in the war, whether they agreed with the motive or not. And they gave their lives to defend the ideals they so adamantly believed in themselves. They thought they were being sent to their deaths to fight communism. Of course, those in Government know otherwise. But anyway, my point is, when you were drafted, you "had to go". By running for the border, you're passing on your potential death sentence to someone else, and probably no more deserving than you. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, let alone look in the mirror, knowing someone else died in my place.

But things have changed a lot since Vietnam. Only a fool would believe that the US is in Iraq to hunt down Osama Bin Ladin. Our president is an Oil Man, as is his partner in crime Dick Cheney. We're there to steal the Arab nation's most coveted Gross National Product, their crude oil. If the Government "Asked" me to fight right now in the dusty wastlelands of the Arabian desert, I would have to say "No". I'm not going to risk my life for a cheaper bill at the gas pumps. We have our own oil here & this is all a big game of money & greed. But if they ordered me to go, then just like all the other servicemen fighting over there, I'd have to kiss my family & friends goodbye and hope for the best. I would go, knowing in my heart that no-one will have to die in my place. I do love my country, but I'd be hard pressed to say that I love all of the people in it. 90% would certainly bail over the border if given a draft order, and perhaps 10% would even bear arms against us, should we happen to lose the war. If we have US servicemen in this day & age bailing out to Canada after volunteering for military duty, they're as good as a coward in my eyes & good riddance. They'll do no better in "La belle pays" because Canadians will snap your head off at the shoulders if you in any way insult their patriotism & sense of duty. They're as quick to defend their homeland as we are, or perhaps more so. As it should be. I'll certainly start paying attention to the news a little more & follow this post. My condolences go out to you if your accusations are true.

His majesty,
James Marquis de Ceas'd

So you are saying you would die for something you do not believe in because the Govt ordered you to?

Usually a soldier that has volunteered can't pick and choose the battles.
