Ireland is full of Polish. Why is this? I welcome you wholeheartedly, you are excellent workers and enjoy yourselves when out. It must be hard to come to another country to live.

I am not polish but i think the reason why there are so many polish workers is that ireland was one of the first countries which opened her 'doors' for the new EU members back at 2004 without any work permits...

Not only Ireland I would say ... Belgium seems to be popular too ... They are guessing that about 20 000 polish people are working here legal (I am not talking about the illegal ones) ... I think that here in Belgium the problem is that some sectors can't fill in their vacancies ... and then they go looking somewhere else for people to fill those gaps up.

@ikke... don't compare Belgium to Ireland. It doesn't come close when talking about immigration from Eastern Europe.
Since the eighties, and joining EU the economy of Ireland boomed. First the policy was to get the Irish expats back from all over the world When the return slowed down, Polish, Lithuanians,... were invited. Wages in Ireland are much higher than in those countries. But the workers usually stay just for a few years, saving to buy a house in Poland or wherever.

Myself and some friends were out in Belfast last night where a band was playing Irish music. The music was great and the place was packed. There was a large crowd of Polish men there and they were having a great night out, enjoying the music, beer and dancing the legs of themselves. As they were giving it loads on the dance floor they began to sweat and boy did they stink. After a while they were the only ones up dancing. Do you think this was a cunning plan to get the dance floor to themselves, or, did they not know the benefits of deoderant? Is this a manly Polish thing to impress ladies?

I don't now about Polish men being smelly. Maybe they haven't heard of the Lynx effect! The ladies are always very well presented.

100 years ago America opened its doors to thousands upon thousands of Irish immigrants. I am proud that my country is now in a position where she can open her doors to thousands of Polish immigrants seeking a better life.

We have around a million Poles in Britain. For many British people their first experience of the Polish People was in the Second World War, when many brave Poles came to Britain to fight for freedom and stayed after the war. Reader
