I think we all have an accent of some sort wherever we are from. Maybe for the local people we do not have one but for people from another country they will detect some kind of an accent as we hear one from someone from another country.

maleslakker | 24 October 2007 - 7:12am

I have a mix of two, its a total pain in the ass really, if I go to the southern part of Sweden people think I speak with west coast accent and when at the west coast people think I speak with southern accent, BLEHHHH

maledeng | 25 October 2007 - 8:41am

When I speak to friends, i have slight Antwerp dialect and accent. Almost all dutch speakers have some kind of dialect, and sure they have local accent. When I'm in front of class or anything, I speak common Dutch in the Flemish way.

If people from other parts of the country would hear me speak they would most definately say that i have the Gothenburg accent.. but i wouldn't, cause i only live close to the city, and people who live IN the city speak much more rough..
So i know that i have an accent, i just don't know which one Razz
Probably some west coast mix... :S

For German folks I have a "Ruhrpott" (colloquial term for the Ruhr Area) accent, while an American friend told me on the phone that I sounded German. Smile

Actually, I like to hear "Ruhrpott" German as well as North German accents, while South German often contains unfamiliar terms, and, in extreme cases, I find it hard to understand.

femaleSururu | 1 November 2007 - 11:16pm

everyone always tells me that I have an accent. Even the people I live around - I don't really know what they mean, only that perhaps I say words differently to them because I like the way they sound better. Although I know people like Keira Knightly and such have the same accent as me.

I'm aware of the fact that I have an accent. Something like south-east England (Essex), but apparently I sound "posh" to other people from the same region. I don't know why that is.

I dont' really have an accent, but I can speak with the accent that is usual in Berlin, if I want to do so. It is not a very appreciated one. It would rather be seen as a lack of education.
hBut tere are a few words which don't exist in the other parts of Germany or have another meaning there, which can be kind of confusing, and of course I use the "right" words, maybe they will "learn" it^^.

I have an accent, but it's more like a mix of many accents of my region...
It's funny because here in austria you only have to go a few miles somewhere and you here people speaking with a completely different accent as yours. That's fun!
I'm just glad that my accent sounds good (the others said that...) Smile

An accent no but I do speak the Carelian dialect so even after 8 years of living in the western part of the country it is very easy for people to tell where I'm originally from.
