Could you be friends with...

someone who is totally different from you? Do you think it would still work even though your political thoughts, lifestyles and habits are totally different?

Opposites attract they often say so I guess I could.

maledeng | 27 October 2007 - 8:10am

Sure. Wouldn't life be quite boring without?

To be honest, at least we should have a bit in common and not complete different at all.

maleKermit | 27 October 2007 - 8:16am

If you're talking about a real friend then, I think it will work. It can even be a more enriching relation. the most important ingredient in the recipe is "respect".

Indeed. Of course it's not a problem if somebody else has different opinions on some things and some interests I do not share. But if there're no common things at all, it's impossible to be really friends.

I doubt it because I reckon there would be too many blazing rows.

One of my best friends is 100% different from me. All we have in common is a wicked sense of humour. We often bug each other for fun cos we are aware of how different we are.
Everyone was in shock when we met and became so close, that was 8 yrs ago Smile Actually, she's one of the few ppl i can't do without.

In my personal opinion, I feel that I have to be friends
with someone who does have at least some of my same
interests..things we can share and learn from together.

yea... I already am friends with someone like that. We've been friends since we were probably 4 years old. We do share some common beliefs but we are very different and we've had clashes because of our differences. But that doesn't stop us from being friends.

Yes! it makes it more interesting.

femalePirate Wench | 30 October 2007 - 9:01am

I think so, my friend Sammy was pretty different to me, how she dressed, the music she liked, things she liked and disliked were very different to what I like and dislike etc and we had a good friendship.

Yes I can. Sometimes we must learn to accept. We learn from them through their thoughts and lifestyle. Isn't it better and more interesting?

Yes, as friends. But just friends. I don't want to fall in love again with a girl too much different from me. I've been in that kind of relationship in the past, and it doesn't work for me. It will end with a fistfight for sure.

It depends on the person' character not only on their culture.
