The outcome was, as had been predicted for some weeks That's the deal
Let us see how the Rudd / Gillard ticket performs in Government.
Although I did not vote Labor, I am in the fortunate position where it made little difference which party would be the eventual winner.
At least with Rudd at the helm, I can be confident of high interest rates which will augur well for my investments Razz
Interesting that "The Smirk" declined the position of Opposition Leader Confused
Is there any truth in the rumour that 50 boatloads of jubilant illegals have just pushed off from Indonesian shores? Bashing

malerichard4u2 | 30 November 2007 - 5:57am

this is an excerpt from the australian nationl flag ass
" i have started befor that i have been told on several occasions that we may have to consider changing our national flag to avoid the risk of offending some elements of our "multi-cultural" population with the presence of the three christian crosses - st george, st andrew and st patrick - which make up the union jack.!!! "
why is it only now some elements of our country may complain

heaven help us with a labor government coming back in, hope the country doesn't go down the toilet like it did under previous labor governments. Although I would be glad if and when they get rid of workchoices

1 tick for kevin on the kyoto agrement although no specific agreement
1 cross, no change to the work place agreements and another cross, the treasurer says there is no money to carry out the election promises and we have to tighten the australian goverment purse strings , so far all lies and it looks like the people who voted for labour were coned big time Very happy

A huge tick for his stance against the Japanese hunting for humpback whales. There's no way John Howard would have done that.

Puzzled

"A huge tick for Rudd" Shaking head
It was people power and a backroom deal with the yankie chairman of the IWC. That's the deal that was behind the Japanese decision to spare humpback whales from its Antarctic hunt THIS season! Stuff all to do with Rudd!!! He was enjoying a world tour at the time!
Obviously the humpbacks were a bargaining chip for Japan! Japan is saying....give us what we want or the humpback gets it Gun
Japan agreed to a US request to POSTPONE the humpback catch while the deadlocked 78-nation commission moved towards "normalization" To Japan, "normalize" means returning to the IWC's 1946 role as regulator of commercial whaling and ending the moratorium against the industry!
So much for flamin' Rudd!! The best he could come up with was to send a big boat to Antarctica to shoot those Japanese "scientists" with cameras Laughing
Shaking head

maleSystem001 | 2 January 2008 - 3:02pm

well its hard in politics to come up with a decision, especially with whaling... what if the japanese didnt want people to eat, burgers, or have a barby, cos its evil to eat cows? well i know thats over blown, and i do agree with stopping whaling, but u cant do it so agressively, it could cause furthar tensions between the two countries.

As for the win, good on him, but remember its been... like 2 months, give it time he's already signed kyoto, so he will keep his promises.

malebutterflyluva | 8 January 2008 - 12:05pm

Puzzled Not sure what eating cows has to do with the price of eggs Confused
However, with the Japs eager to dine upon delicacies such as blowfish, jellyfish and sea cucumbers, I doubt they would give two stiffs about what we eat! The blighters even grind up the bony plates of seahorses, dragons and pipe fish for use as an aphrodisiac so they become sufficiently excited Sex! to ensure their production line of whale scientists does not falter in any way Very happy
The slaughter of whales in the Antarctic is well and truly under way, while the promised big camera laden boat of Rudd remains tied up at Fremantle wharf!
Laughing Rudd keep his promises.... Rollin'
Sure he signed kyoto...... so what? He will not commit as to how he is going to lower greenhouse emissions in Australia Shaking head Indeed, the WA Labor Gov have just announced they are to build another power station ........ Yep, COAL FIRED!! No union pressure of course Razz

malezoom1018 | 8 March 2008 - 12:10pm

Kevin Rudd? We call him Harry Potter over here! Razz

Oh and my purpose of coming here is to ask this question: (as an outsider and not an Australian citizen)

What do you think/how do you feel about the Rudd government saying apologies to Indigenous Australians? Why he had to do so? What happened in the past? I read about this on a local newspaper, but I do not understand it much, so it would be great if one of you could shed a light on this. Thanks! Smile
