@ micha65: Have you see a Hungarian film called Fateless? That's a little similar to Schindler's List.

Maybe Saving Private Ryan, but its Spielbergism is unbearable for me!!!!!!
A more realistic approach could be Apocalypse now.
If you're a Spielberg fan, do not take offense. He proved to me he can do good films from time to time too.

That film was ruined by three things:
1) Jude Law.
2) Bob Hoskins and his oh so authentic accent.
3) The decision to put a love interest in the narrative.

Apart from that I managed to enjoy it.

My favourites are:

A Bridge Too Far
Black Hawk Down
Zulu!

maleJanus_ | 30 November 2007 - 11:43pm

Platoon
Full metal jacket
Beast of war
Das boot

Laughing Well I think Spielberg's best film is Schindler's List, yes. But it is the only one from him. His other films .... hmm ... no comment.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... the only one I remember with NCage is "Windtalkers". Good, but not enough for me. Oh! looking at some other people posts I saw "Platoon". And I didn't mentioned it on MY previous post. So, I'll amend the omission: Platoon is a good one.

Hahaha... don't be cruel!!!!!! Didn't you cry at the end of the movie when that good old Apache boy payed respect to their killed friend's spirit, adressing him as a "fierce warrior"? Laughing
Oh! Obviously it's not the best war movie, but it's not so bad too. I've seen a lot infinitely worse.

No, ladies and gentlemen, the best film about War is certainly old soviet "War and Peace". Perhaps 'tis not only about war, but the best, of course!!!

Not my favourite genre, but my picks would be Schindler's List, Jacob's Ladder (not a traditional war film, but it counts), The Deer Hunter, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket. They're my five favourites and i think they're all amazing.

As far as a real war movie which did not take place as another story told during war, such as "Great Escape" or "Bridge on the river Kwai" which were not as much about the war as they were about prison camps.

I'd have to say "Saving Private Ryan" was very well done. even though it was a seperate story that took place during the war, they were under fire almost the entire movie. so i vote for that for my favorite dealing with ww2. "Hamburger Hill" was the best 'nam movie i ever seen. "Tora Tora Tora" has to be mentioned for ww2 also.

"Band of brothers" was not a war movie, but that was even better than "Saving Private Ryan"

"Band of brothers" is my favorite of anything i've ever seen. but i've never really seen a war movie i didn't like.

Does anyone remember "Murphys war" one of my favorites also, though not highly acclaimed. also "Enemy Below" with Mitchum & Curt Jurgens. great movie. "Stalag 17" on and on
