Origami

Anyone here who has any experience with origami? A few weeks ago I received my first origami piece, a very nice origami crane. When I recently received some genuine Japanese origami paper as well I decided to try it out myself, and succeeded in making a simple origami Christmas tree. Anyway, is there anybody here who has tried making any origami? What did you make?

My chinese penpal used to turn his letter to me into amazing origami puzzles to open. I loved it.
I did some origami from an origami set from the shops when I was a kid...made some swans and stuff, cant remember, but it was fun.

My first origami experience was a long time ago, I had 12 years. and I tired to make a T. rex, but I threw the piece Laughing but without a diagram I used to make planes and ships (which can be used as little hats Razz ) when I was 5. Now I'm still trying to make a praying mantis.

I drink coffee from plastic cups at uni. When they're empty, I use them as an origami material. The outcome is called "the smashed cup".

Fascinating! Is it possible to see pictures of your fine art somewhere?

I strongly believe that a masterpiece loses its fascination when captured in a photo.

I like it but I can't make anything too complicated. I have a book with some simple figures I try to make

Damnit! Any diagrams or instructions as to how one of a lesser skill could make one?

However, on the serious subject of origami; I find origami a great thing to fill that creative gap you sometimes get. I have just finished making my mum a modular origami swan for mothers day. Theres a picture of it on my blog: www.abitofrae.blogspot.com

Wow, I'm impressed! It looks awesome! Must have taken ages to make. I guess you have to be quite experienced to make something like that? Do you have a link to the instructions?

It took me about 2 days to fold the 500 little pieces, and about 2 hours to put it together. Surprisingly, I wouldn't say i was anymore than a beginner at origami! It is just a very simple method for a very complex looking design.
This blog contains a video onto how to make it, or, if you prefer, a link to a textual explanation: http://anu-origami.blogspot.com/2007/08/modular-origami-swan.html

Thanks for the link! You're right.. it doesn't look too complicated, but damn.. that's a lot of pieces! Puzzle for patient people Lalo

Thanks for the link. I was interested in doing origami for a while so i looked it up on the net, but it seemed a little too much for my level of patience. Very happy Congrats on your christmas tree - i don't think i would manage to make a piece of paper folded twice. Laughing
