Has anyone here built their own house?
We did. Or, rather, I should say that my Partner did, (because he is the big, strong man, you know....). It took just over a year. Ironically, it took a year to get planning permission from the council before he could even start to build. Soooo, we were living in a tin shed next to the building site for just over two years.

Never a real house but a two room cabin for myself. It did not have any plumbing so it made it easier. I sold it for a hefty profit that I used for a down payment on the house I now live in. I would love to built a house but building material is outrageous around here.
No, only Lego ones when I was much younger than I am now.

We were just that close to building, but when we seen all the hidden costs, we decided to buy old and renovate. It was a better investment with a much greater return.

Not me, but my parents did a few years ago and it took them over 1 1/2 to get finished.

I have never built my own house, but when I was like 10 my family - meaning my larger extended family - came together to build a bigger farm house, when I was 14 we did an addition to our cousins farm house, built a shed in the backyard when I was 15 because they were doing stuff to the house and lumber was left over and built a new house for our aunty (who is actually my first cousin once removed) when I was 18.
My uncle is an architect and my other uncle owns a construction company so using the family just meant cheap labour.
I have an uncle though who ever 10 years buys some land and builds a new house. He says its because he doesn't like a cookie cutter home.
