the russian campaign cost napoleon close to half a million men and so the willingness of others to enlist..waterloo was a classic intelligence blunder...he simply did not KNOW of the presence of the hessians under general blucher which allowed wellington the by the book scissors play, and that was the ballgame.
he was totally crasy and megalomaniac :many monuments have still a big "N"
his ground of play was the world ! so I'm particulary proud to be Briton because the riot in Brittany when Napoleon escape from Elbe mobilized many marine troops which lacked in waterloo ! so he becoming the reference of fools people as hitler or Bokassa for exemple ! :hammering:
hmmmmm!rather like alexander the great...could napoleon swim do you think?the med down opposite atlas is really rather deep...
Lots of people are still trying to swim accross there.

hahah,torpedoes ,anyone?
Hitler made the same mistake that Nepolion made...when you stretch your supply lines out too far and you spread your army too thin... it just doesn't work.

haha... thanx, It is also my belief that you do not attack Russia or keep your troops in Russia in the middle of winter, I heard those Russian winters can get pretty nasty.

Attempt at humour?
Don't attack a nation geographically bigger than you, unless you have a well trained, well equiped army. It is a myth that the Germans were efficient.
At least he "destroyed" the roman empire of german nation which ended in 1806.....

Myth germans efficient...not so!just as it did not occur to napoleon that wellington was confederate with blucher so it did not occur to the kaiser and advisers that america would enter the ww1..bears no relation to efficiency...
Lol thanx Ed. This could go on forever though...

very simple : he was creasy ! he let after him destruction and death !
I wonder if that goes hand in hand with "they are either at your feet or your throat" ?
Hmmmm!Anyway i just commented.Ita actually someone elses remark...Armies can be efficient but if they are not EFFECTIVE! oy.

Could you please stop using caps? Thank you.
The reason why Napoleon ended the way he did is that he lost the campaign in Russia and after that everything went just bad. His generals mutinied against him, France was occupied by the Coalition forces (Prussia, Russia, UK, Spain, Portugal and some German states), and they eventually got to Paris. At that point Napoleon was just forced to surrender unconditionally.
