I was just checking some figures on Orkut and almost 55% of the users is Brazilian. Is this community that popular in Brazil, or is it just not popular anywhere else?

It is definitely popular in brasil, since all my brasillian friends separately invited me a couple of years back, in 2005.

In fact it says here that Orkut is the most visited website in Brasil, even more than google Brasil. Although if you add the visitors together from google Brasil and google international version, the total might be more.

It also says:

Quote:
The initial target market for orkut was the United States, but the majority of its users are in Brazil. In fact, as of January 2008, 55.32% of the traffic come from Brazil, followed by 16.53% from India.

Quote:
In December 2007, Google dropped orkut from the drop-down menu of its international homepage.
(obviously not popular enough in the rest of the world).

It is interesting though, to read about the intial popularity and then censorship in Iran, as well as United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and perhaps Bahrain.
