lets scrap the CBC

To anybody that is right of center politically, it is painfully obvious that the CBC has a strong left wing bias. Perhaps people that are left of center don't see the bias since it supports those views. Last night I was forced into listening to CBC in Alberta and it really was brutal coverage of that election. The majority of Albertans voted Conservative. But the repoters were over the top dismayed with the results. One of the reporters was reading emails coming into the CBC. Likely 9 out of 10 emails read were in some way questioning the intelligence of Albertans. Why should our tax dollars support the CBC trying to influence how people think?

I like the CBC Smile though I will agree they are a biased news source when it comes to elections. Do I care though? no not really, I figure it'll always be like that, until they get new staff.

All media everywhere is biased! Would it be more acceptable to you if they were right-leaning? If so, than your argument falls apart.

The CBC could be so much more, with only a small increase in taxation. Look at the BBC. Brilliant!

I would be absolutely and utterly opposed to scraping the CBC!!!

Get rid of it. Very few Canadians watch it and the money could be spent on a myriad of issues that are actually important.

Why is a medium where Canadian talent can be aired unimportant?

Do you suggest that we receive all of our programming from the US? I'm not against American shows, and enjoy many of them, but I have also enjoyed many a Canadian production, and a political viewpoinf different from that offered by corporate Canada's broadcasters.

Besides which, if you live in the more isolated areas of this country, CBC is often all you can receive. Do we tell those people that they are unimportant so that each of us can save less than $40 a year?

If you believe (as I do) that we need more money for important issues, why not start putting the levels of taxation up again for the corporate sector?

The CBC is unimportant; it is entertainment and not a privation. Health care, education and cancer research are just a few of the important issues.

Your second sentence is a good example of a bifurcation fallacy. Either we have
CBC or all American programming? Most of Canada’s talent is being displayed on CTV and Global by hundreds of percent more. (See BBM Nielson)

Satellite dishes can be used more efficiently and effectively in remote areas with hundreds of audio and video channels.

According to the CBC financial statement of 2006 and 2007, the CBC was not just spending our money on Canadian programming. An additional $60 million helped pay for controlling interest in The Documentary Channel purchased from Corus Entertainment. The same financial statement stated it had significantly exceeded its business plan projections of ownership interest of Sirius Canada.
The last statement about taxation is not the subject being discussed.

“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.”
Winston Churchill
