What does your religion have to offer?

Owen Pritchard is taking solicitations from the worlds faiths:

"Obviously, I bring a lot to the table, I'm a broken shell of a man with nowhere else to turn and I will believe just about anything at this point, so if a religion really wants me, they're going to have to sweeten the pot. For instance, Hinduism is promising me rebirth as a king and the unlocking of all the secrets of the universe. But at this stage, that's not enough. How about throwing in some final redemption, or a car, or complete and total spiritual transcendence?"

and

"The Catholic Church has been wining and dining me, if I'm getting free Italian dinners today, just think what they'll give me when I tell them that Islam is promising me lofty mansions, lush gardens, and 4,000 virgin companions in the afterlife. I'll be eating like a king!"

what does your faith have to offer a man at the end of his rope?

Those who do not belong to any religion, assuming that you were offered something to join a certain religion, what kind of offer would tempt you?

I think many religions, more generally faith can actually give a person strength to go on and better themselves. If the person that is at the end of the rope thinking that they really deserve a kingdom because they thought of God only as their last hope, should actually look back on their life and see what faith they chose to follow, that led them to hit rock bottom in the first place.
Why do people always expect kingdoms from God when they are down and out, when they never really had faith in him before?

What does your religion have to offer?
Who is wise? He who learns from every man,as it is said, from all my teachers have i aquired wisdom..Who is strong? He who subdues his evil inclinations..He that is slow to anger is better than the strong man,and he that rules his spirit is better than one who conquers a city...this is not an offer ,so i guess my religion has nothing to offer to you one...

If they (religious persons) were to make an offer of something for me to join their religion to tempt me in, I would back off double quick.

I think at times when people are feeling kinda weak and have nowhere or no-one to turn to, religion/faith can probly give them some kinda comfort ... but i dont think its all about God - its more about the people that welcome u into some kinda safe haven where u can feel a sense of belonging ....

Nothing would actually tempt me thou, i prefer to jus stay open-minded about all religions.

i think the best thing my religion has to offer is total freedom of mind, body and soul. it's a form of self-expression and an on-going battle for knowledge and truth. it's a path to a divine truth and funnel of unconditional love and unmistakable compassion. it offers simple rules to follow. its a full foundation of stregnth based on time tested examples. and most of all, it's a way to eternal life through teaching the values of faith.
i am a non-denominational christian! i have no church, my church is in my heart. i have no congregation, my congregation is in my soul.
faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
if a religion has to offer someone things (materialisic) in order to win members, than its a very shallow religion with no foundation, no morals and no respect for the phrase "the love of money is the root of all evil."
peace and love Very happy

Worship god and follow his ten ever so cool rules and you'll get to heaven, show some individuality and you'll end up in a very warm place. Now, that's so much for the xian freedom of "mind, body and soul." Doesn't leave you much of a choice, does it?

I followed the cult of science and became a bitter twisted individual with a never ending hatred of all things religious.

Thankfully I saw the light, and now rule over my own bunny domain Very happy

quite so shaka, but god gives us the freedom to choose whether or not we want to follow His rules. thats where the "freedom" comes in. you are free to make your own decisions...either follow Him or do not. the ball's in your court. play wisely Wink
