ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who gained national prominence relentlessly pursuing Wall Street wrongdoing, has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a law enforcement official and a person briefed on the investigation.

These god damn Democrats just can't keep it in their pants. any New Yorkers here ?

I have two trains of thought on this. i didn't vote for the man, but i actually do like Spitzer since he's been in. but for trying to pull a fast one on us New Yorkers with giving "alleged" illegals drivers licenses, he's been ok. i thought it was a shitty idea to give people who cannot read english a drivers license. the rest of the state apparently agreed. it never went through.

It should also be noted that he has been charged with any crime as of yet. in America it is supposed to be "innocent until proven guilty" though any American who has lived here for more than 5 minutes knows that is bullcookies.

My opinion is if he does get charged with a crime, which does look likely. then he should resign. no question he should. this man was Attorney General for 8 years. he prosecuted 2 prostitution rings in New York during his tenure. i am actually disappointed. like i said, i didn't vote for the man, but he grew on me. and we just went through 12 years of Republicans with Pataki, who is a slimeball in my opinion. he ran this state into the ground. everything has left here. it's like a ghost state outside of NYC.

I'm not a New Yorker, but I'll post my 2 cents anyway. Big suprise. You think he's the only one? So far, he's the only big name that has been caught. Sure it's wrong, and he should pay the price. But, he is also a human being. It shouldn't be the end of his life. He's probably a very nice person. He just gets horny every now and then.

I think the point was that he busted people for doing the same thing--not just that he did it.

Well yeah scott anyone can reply, i just wondered if there is New Yorkers here.

We all make mistakes yes, and when those mistakes violate state and federal laws there is always an Ellliot Spitzer to proseceute us and hold us accountable. so i just think we should expect the same for him. it should end his public service life indeed.

Notice anything...different here?

Shifty, you bring up an excellent point.

Next time we'll make the Republican bastard resign first, then we'll arrest him.

All jokes aside though. it is a good example of the hypocrisy when it comes to holding liberals accountable. we should always "step back and get all the facts" when it's a liberal who is accused of wrong doing. but if it's a Republican he is just a racist, homophobe right off the bat who doesn't care about the people and only wants to get rich and yada yada...

Why do people get punished for having sex? I never knew there was anything wrong with sex, just as long as both enjoy. (or the whole group, for what i care)
It's his business, and that of his wife. And national security can use their hands if jealous.

Whats wrong with him buying sex? He is using hard earned money by taxpayers of the state of New York. People trying to put food on the table and pay their bills. Its these public officials that tell the taxpayer there isn't enough money to take care of critical services. He spent $80,000.00 taxpayer dollars. He is envolved in interstate trafficing of prostitution , a federal crime, he is guity of money laundrying. Just sex? hell no.

And yet...if he'd gone to Nevada...it would have been legal.

maleEvenste1971 | 12 March 2008 - 7:38pm

Well actually Denq. the real trouble is that he broke federal laws. there is charges pending, though they have not actually charged him with anything as of yet.

This man was Attorney General for 8 years. for those 8 years he prosecuted New Yorkers for everything from A-Z. not to mention (but i will) that he prosecuted 2 prostitution rings in those 8 years. it's like the pot calling the kettle black.

In President Clintons case though, they just crucified the man.

Anyway, as of Monday he's history and Governor whatever his name is (slips me) takes over. he'll be New Yorks first African American Governor. also the first blind Governor in the state. which fits in quite well with the current state of politicians in the USA. as they are all blind.

It's a prosecuter's job to prosecute. And yes, he can't prosecute while committing the same 'crime'. But he's not a prosecuter anymore. A prostitution ring is not the same as prostitution. making people have sex for money isn't the same as having sex for money.

I'm not a New Yorker either, but I'll put in my half penney.

Why does it matter that he is not a prosecutor anymore? Leaving that office does not entitle him to disregard federal laws. In fact, as Governor and an elected official he has an even higher duty to uphold the law, but he broke it repeatedly.

Also, I think you missed the part when someone said he used tax dollars to fund his habit--which I beleive indeed *was* to personally visit high-priced call girls.

Sex is part of this, but by far not the biggest.

All I really have to add is that there is much irony here..once again...
It's not about the sex..it's about the hypocrisy.

Another thing that always stands out to me is that being the wife..husband..or the child of a Politician has got to be one giant balancing act.
How do you pull off these huge public humiliations of which you had no active part.?
But still, all eyes on you.
Now that he's resigned maybe it can stop being the staple of the headlines...until the indictments come down..
and his trophy girl comes out unscathed and gets her day in the sun in Playboy.. or the highest bidder.

I have a question! Is it a crime to make a verbal contract with a woman for sex?or does it only become a crime when the money is actually paid?If the second/would not a witness be required or is it possible in new york to try someone for intent?

As for clinton there is no logical comparison, monica was a consenting adult, there is no connection.
I'll pass on the morals of the issue, let new york decide.

femaleredwillie97 | 14 March 2008 - 7:54am

Verbal seems to always suffice on a sting...especially a wiretap sting..
But there are now greater issues involved now then just his own hypocrisy and an expensive little roll in the hay..

And the whole issue of prostitution being illegal...
I think that's less about morality than the fact that the IRS has a hard time getting their paws around accessibly taxing all the goods.
Prostitution is actually not legal in all of Nevada....only the places where the little chicken ranches dwell and they can be readily tapped for goods and services.

Now THAT is funny... Care to be honest about...say...your little country? Where what you speak of here is common. COMMON as opposed to a few incidents here, that have been prosecuted... vs openly enough accepted in yours. Be gone bug.

I just had to look up where you were, I always forget..the way you prattle on about other countries, I'd thought you lived in Utopia or something.

First off, you're a hypocrite. I've been to Malaysia a few times. There's prostitutes all over the place. For a supposed conservative country (nice front), it's disgusting how there's children being peddled, some by family members. Why don't you run your little crusade there, pal. Unfortunately, it's like that in a lot of Asian countries..and before anyone starts screaming I'm being racist, shut up.

And yes, you lackwit, there's sex in America. Gee, probably the whole world, too, if the increase in population is an indication. It's normal. How'd you think babies are made? I understand this part is terribly indulgent of me..to resort to mocking you..but, really, hantugalong, you make it so easy. I'm not really surprised you have totally missed the whole point.

Anyhoo, a couple of weeks later..we know the outcome (well, the beginning, at least, of this mess)...there's bound to be more crappity crap come out. I like how the men are referred to as "clients", though. Trying to take the sleaze out of it?

If Spitzer did exactly what he prosecuted others for, then he's a hypocrite and should be punished for it. No whips and chains though; he might enjoy that. It's amazing how these men of power can skirt the law and even more amazing how their wives stick with them even after all the infidelities and the media circus.
