A national hero and key figure in the modern Irish state. A true legend. Anyone with a true interest in Ireland or with even a drop of green blood in their veins must read and learn about this great man if they don't know of him already. Headbanger

He certainly desereved his nickname "the big fellow" by his patriotism and loyalty to his country.

I can't help but wonder if he could have done even more for Ireland than his already immense acheivements if he lived longer. It's a typical example of a truly great icon dying young. In his case, murdered.

I wonder if he was the fall guy for dev, after all collins himself said "he signed his own death warrant"by signing the treaty, its been said De Velera used the poltical fallout to his advantage

I wonder if Collins knew deep down he would be murdered that particular day and therefore perhaps never put up much of a fight. Perhaps using that particular incident as the perfect excuse to take the moral high ground and prove his final point. To a point it actually worked because he went out on a high, a lot of respect still intact and people remember him for what he did. He, in effect, wrote the history book in his own favor by signing. So it wouldn't have just been his quote "death warrant" that he signed but his place in Irish history for the good.
