Tattoo or not to tattoo?
Does your religion/faith have a taboo against tattoo’s?
In recent times, religious tattoos seem to be on the increase: a skin-deep image of a once-revered symbol, such as the Ankh, Ichthus, the Sacred Heart and the Cross/Crucifix of the Christians; the Star of David, Menorah, and the various symbols of Islam; The Eye of Horus, Yin Yang, Dharma, and other religious symbols for different religious groups are seen worn more by people who do not practice the religion.
So the question of whether religious tattoos are taboo or not lies on the personal belief of the wearer or the teachings of the belief or is it no longer dictated by society but by how one chooses to show his/her spirituality. Or have tattoos, like religion, become a more personal thing?

I think tattoos usually are (and should be) a very personal thing, as should religion.
I have decided never to get a tatoo. It has nothing to do with any religion, it is my own freedom of choice.

Well, I don't know how some of you will feel about this but some people in my land have tattoos on their lips and chins--it is part of a cultural practise. I myself don't have any of those nor any of the kind people get in Western societies--cartoon characters and such. I as well a long time ago also decided never to have one.

Tatoos are hard to remove if you no longer want them and are dirty.
For a lot of people, tattoos are a part of their culture. For others they're seen as something to be frowned upon, whether the religion actually 'allows' them or not. But then some people are just stuck-up prigs. Choosing to decorate yourself with a tattoo should be a personal decision.

Well looking at it from my point of view, and this might sound incredibly racist but a woman is permitted to do anything to enhance her attractiveness, tattooes for men ,,forget it.Improving gods work??
Why not, I think it is a nice gesture. But what does piss me off is people who have such tattoos or even adorn themselves with religious symbols, and do it purely for a fashion statement.

I believe as a Christian, that we are temples that God has created and that we should be very careful about taking care of them. We are endwelled with The Holy Spirit, we are but just clay pots for which the Good Lord molds. So as to the tattoo question, my opinion is if the Good Lord wanted pictures on our body He would have put them there

I'll go with that,i have a few involuntary marks, but they were not of my choice.the young wife over the back fence is a returned penitent she has a swallow tattooed just above her ankle, they have no spare money but i let hubby know, she wants it lazered? she gets it..My daughter won't let me be grandpa? i'll be grandpa to someone else...
i think in Catholicism it's advised, but not obligatory , to not get a tattoo. because like our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. so yea. But God gave us all free will so it's your choice.
Que Diosito los bendiga!
Yeah? and what do you have to say about those who put the little pink shade on their cheeks or that blue powder on their eyelids... what about those who put that paint on their eyelashes to make them look longer and more pronounced? Don't you also agree that if God wanted you to have all that, he would have given it to you naturally?
What about that smell that most people carry, with the fragrances and all inside them, wouldn't you say that if God wanted you to smell like vanilla beans, he would have made you that way?
What about shaving all of your hair off... don't you think that if God wanted you to be bald, he would have made you that way??? You see, this argument is really weak, and is a PERFECT example of religious bigotry. Where a church (selfish organization, formed by those who wish to control people) has turned around and made their OWN rules, and then they also justify it by manipulating God's word just right so that it is supportive.
God, to my knowledge, has not made any rules in the tattoo department, however, he also says not to make any Graven Image to be worshiped as well. I personally have 3 tattoos, and I'm getting more pretty soon, but I'll tell you what about them, My body is in no way defiled with the tattoos that I receive, because my tattoos are MY BUSINESS, no one else's. You wanna worry about "God's Temple" why don't you pay more attention to the foods and drinks that you consume. Or how about the polluted air that you fill your lungs with. What about those DRUGS (pharmaceutical poisons) that you consume when you have a headache... That's what really counts, a simple layer of ink a few layers below the skin does not harm the "Temple" in any way. But you can continue living under the rules of man rather than the rules of God if you wish... I have no intention of stopping you. ![]()

Eeeeeaassssy now!!! This is only my own opinion, tattoos are permanent(unless you want to go to the expense of removing them, but I don't think this is the point in your case). As for cosmetics (you know, the pink stuff ) It is easily removed, just as the perfume is removed. I am not doing permanent harm to my person. You are, however correct about what is put into my body such as chemicals and such, one needs to be careful about what we eat. As for pollution that would be a whole new ball game..![]()
We take chemicals to get rid of a headache, but The Lord also Blessed man with the knowledge to help others. Such as medical cures and treatments to help those in need. A good example might be chemo therepy to help with cancer

I forgot to say that I am not legalistic, God does not make rules but provides guidelines for us to follow if we want to stay within His will, becasuse as you mentioned before, God gave us the freedom of choice.

this is true, but keep in mind that every criminal makes his/her choice to commit a crime, they just have to pay the piper once they go through with it.
As for the cosmetics... some would argue that it is VAIN to use make up... (vanity) not necessarily my opinion though. ![]()
Also, about the blessing of knowledge to help each other and all that... I can say that that is a pertinent argument, but only if you are talking about understanding natural remedies as opposed to chemicals(poisons) dreamed up and created in a lab.
You know... I have not come across even ONE lab created pharmaceutical yet, that is not poisonous or toxic to some or many parts of the body... Interesting huh? what we use to (temporarily)alleviate one ailment, only causes more permanent destruction. Did you know that if you take 2 - 3 doses of Tylenol a day for headaches, within 10 - 15 years you can have severe damage (possibly fatal) to your liver?
Talk about protecting the "temple"

I don't know if the Catholic religion has any restrictions against tattooing, but hey if I want a tattoo on my butt, it should be my decision.
