Right to arm bears.

I'm an environmentalist...
I hear so much hullaballoo about the right to bear arms... who cares?
Humanity is already armed beyond any sane levels, it's so unnecessary
to add yet more guns to the collection.
To the contrary, we are threatened by the fact that humans give too little regard to the
natural environment, so that we have become the worst threat to own species' survival.
It's time that the environment has a chance to fight back, to defend itself, thus drawing a line
on what is permissable and what isn't. Nature and wildlife ought to (if it could) be able to shoot
back, when humans infringe on habitats and destroy the basis for survival of innumerable
and essential species for the survival of a healthy planet.
For example, just this past year, the remote forests in Mexico where Monarch butterflies
hibernate have been clear-cut to a vast extent, pushing the Monarch closer to extinction.
This will be a devastating blow to many plants that depend on the Monarch for pollination, not to mention the many crops that do as well...
So the real issue is... the right to arm bears.
Figuratively, if not literally...
Everyone should have the right, if not a duty, to defend nature, even if it means with a weapon.
Does anyone have a problem with an armed defense of the planet's life support systems?

I too am an environmentalist but unfortunately the conservative Republicans are in power and we will have to wait until they are out of office. Bob the Builder and Urban sprawl are destroying all the farmland in the U.S. at a blinding speed. They are building houses that no one wants just to enrich wealthy homebuilders and Wall Street pin stripped bandits.

Thank you conservative Bush/McCain Republicans for global warming, the use of food (corn ethanol) in the gas tanks of SUV's causing famine all over the world. resulting in slow death for all life on earth. Thank you for urban sprawl, the non-stop building of new homes that no one wants, and the destruction of all farmland to build the new homes with illegal labor from south of the border that you won't protect. Thank you for trying to destroy Social Security and medical care for all Americans, great bunch of guys, oh did I mention the non stop wars to support conservative republican arms and ammunition manufactures?

I agree there is too many guns as it is. But the Constitution would need some sort of alteration or amendment and it is unlikely things are changed right now. But hopefully in some time they can get more rigid.

Haha, for people that enjoy hunting, it'd be nice to make it fairer and see animals shooting back. Laughing I agree that there are too many guns, but i don't see it changing radically anytime soon.

Not everybody hunts for the thrill of it. There's a way of life called subsistence.

I agree..and really..how do you think man survived through time, by glaring animals into submission? I'm grateful for my distant ancestors for their perseverance. Very happy My dad has a good friend who never, ever buys meat. He hunts. He lives simply, when he can't hunt, he fishes. He also grows his own organic vegetables. I don't think there's anything wrong with hunting, heaven's sake. I think if people want to completely eschew meat, more power to them. But, I think some people are hypocrites. There was a topic here on MF, I think it was the General channel, last year..this girl was getting her undies in a bunch when I mentioned that my husband hunts (rifle & bow). I asked her if she was a vegetarian...nope, she thought it was just cruel to hunt animals. Idiot. I guess one can be self-righteous if all they do is go to the store & avoid all the messiness by buying their meat all packaged up nice & neat. It's like those "save the planet" bumper stickers on gas-guzzling SUV's. I actually pulled up next the driver of one, told her "nice sticker" and she smiled, "thanks!" I guess I need to inject more sarcasm in my voice. Wink

(PS. I'm not slighting anyone here..and I have no problems with people living a vegan life, you understand, just giving MHO. It's their choice, it's their business..just like mine is. Wink )

I respect vegans who do not approve of hunting but think people who eat meat who disapprove of hunting are total hypocrites. Animals breed for the slaughter house are no different than those who are hunted for meat except that hunters have to deal with the reality of doing their own dirty work while supermarket purchasers do not.

"Bumper sticks are for tossers" is a personal favourite. Don't anyone around here would make it though.

I have no problem with arming the bears but I draw the line with the squirrels. They favour automatic weapons and never eat what they kill.
