well u cant really put things like nessie (loch ness monster) and things like faries in the same catageory.
such creatures like nessie, yeti, bigfoot, etc...are registered as cyptids and belong to the science of cryptozoology.
faries, pixies, etc...simply belong to mythology and superstitions beliefs.
i'm a cryptozoological researcher and therefore i in one way or another believe that the cryptids are real until otherwise proven mythological. and mythological creatures are not real at all because a myth is a myth.

Maybe lake dragons were really! In my country, we have got a lake dragon fresk on Van Lake. An island on Van lake, has got a very old Armeninan church, and on the portal, there are a horrible dragon fresk. And hundred stories tell on still. As loch ness! But we haven't a photo, film on dragon. But this lake is very near to Ararat Mount (Noah's mount).

Did you know that some dinosaur sculls are found to have mysterious chambers inside them.
