Wine Wine Wine!!!
"In Vino Veritas" means In Wine The Truth!
A chemically "balanced" drink? White worse/better than Red? Dry or Sweet Rose? Enjoyed cold or warm?
Just as the wine flows, it can make words flow like a river from the heart. Causes passionate declarations and eliminations, involve some bizarre actions that sometimes end with more than a bit of whining...or a bad headache. Is there a time and a place for it? Should women really drink less than men?
We're NOT TALKING ABOUT OTHER ALCOHOLIC DRINKS RIGHT NOW - save that for later.
Anyone has anything to say to that?

'The truth is in the wine'
And in Dutch, we say: 'When the wine is in the man, the wisdom is in the can.' (bottle, but it doesn't sound as good)

Nice comment from Bosnia - I'll read up about it more.
As for Deng...Oh dear, I had no wine (yet) today and already my sentences are a slurry muddle! In wine the truth, in truth the wine...umh ja.
How'd you say the bottle-thing in Dutch? I'm Afrikaans speaking and although I understand Flemish better, I'd still give it a go.
Strange, but after two glasses of wine these days I'm terribly tired and sleepy. Age or just a passing stage?

We have an ancient saying here in Greece :
"Wine delights the Heart"
("Οίνος ευφραίνει καρδίαν")
Wine, indeed, always facilitated human relationships, it can be beneficial for health, if consumed moderately . Low "doses" of it act like mild stress relievers and socializing factors
On the other hand, a bad or even mediocre wine can cause a total mess, physically and mentally
(hangover, bad mood etc.). In my opinion, cheap wine should be avoided (a medium priced one is a good option, nobody has to be ruined bying an expensive Merlot)
As for the different kinds of wines, eg. whites or reds, any bright coloured one is "lighter" after its absorbtion (due to some fermentation procedure which is different from the "darkers") so you don't get easilly drunk with a white one...which should'nt be that cold (about 7-10 degs Celsium)
Reds should be in a room temperature before consuming...
Sweet wines should be kinda cold too... but they contain sugar (and that raises the chances to get drunk with)
Well, about men and women...it is said that men due to their average bigger body structure which contains more liquids, could absorb more(?) alcohol with less harm than women...(that has to be proven)
And the time or place is up to us.

In vino veritas? I wonder if that is the origin of the dutch saying "Children and drunks tell the truth".
As for red and white, sweet or dry... for me it just depends on the circumstances.

@bog... I am Flemish, Flemish is Dutch, at least when written.
'Als de wijn is in de man, is de wijsheid in de kan.'

@janus... I thought that was 'De waarheid komt uit een kindermond.' (truth comes out of a child's mouth.' But ok.
Oh... and @bog... it's not a bad translation, but you have to ad verbs and articles to the Latin.

Konstantinos,
The first time I visited Greece and tasted Greek wine I thought my drink was spiked or accidentally heavily perfumed. I thought the waiter had a hidden agenda with me and was well worried and peeved actually... But well, like other cultivars and countries, one sometimes only need time to get used to some flavours and then enjoy it.
Deng, Ja ja ja ja... Flaams is baie maklik om te verstaan. Do you know the following saying: Jy het wingerd-griep... Meaning you don't have flue or a cold but the "flue" or "cold" that results of having had too much wine...
As for the Latin (duh???) - it may be the root of most languages from Anglo-Saxen to French, but it still drives some studens and people mor than up the wall, especially law students to drink!
I'm not into law or Latin, but in wine I see & smell & taste an art that runs back for centuries. Just looking at the underground barrels or tanks with wine fermenting inside opens up a world unseen and untouched...full of wonder waiting to be discovered. Woah....

well i have heard that red wine is better for u than white wine .... something to do with antioxidants present in the skin and seeds of red grapes which reduce the risk of coronary heart disease ......
Wine does have a habit of going straight to the parts that make u talk more
But i can say they must be better on the bladder cos they dont make u pee as much like many alcoholic drinks

I don't think one is better or worse than another; depends what you like, but whenever i drank wine (ie extremely rarely), i always preferred red. I know a glass of red (is it red?) a day is supposed to be good for your heart. Apart from that........don't know if i've ever heard about it making words flow like rivers from the heart, but it makes sick flow like a river to my toilet.
I really don't like any wine, it tastes even worse to me than beer.

I love a good dry red wine, my favorites are Chile, Italy, Portugal, and South Africia and these are not in any particular order I love them all and I am constantly trying new ones. They say that red wine a glass a day is good for the heart, maybe I already have a good heart thank God, but I know if I drink too much I get the giggles and then fall asleep. Usually I like a glass with dinner but try never to have more than 3 glasses max. I do know that it is good for the cholestrol. I love butter and when I had my last cholestrol check up it was perfect. So here, here for the winers!!!

Finalllllllly someone who's honest about how much she drinks, simply for the enjoyment of it. He-he-he...I try to max it to two these days and not three, simply because I fall asleep too, or start talking too much. Weekends it's a different story, so ever slightly so.
With flying inflation however, it will be a very sad story if one day I'll not be able to enjoy so frequently a good bottle of wine from anywhere in the world - what about box wine then? Erm yes-ummh...
French wine, apart from the arrogant French attitude, is my favourite...Its robust and cheeky, sensual and soft with a hint of the earth and centuries old vine and oak... I could easily drone on about it all day (the subject of wine) and better stop here.

Many people consider wine to be like real medicine if consumed in reasonable limits. Many doctors recommend a glass of red wine to be consumed after a meal every day or every evening.
My parents come from the southern region of my country (the region is called: Herzegovina) where vineyard industry is very popular, very much valued, acknowledged and high rated.
Wine from that region is well known for its excellent taste and quality throughout the whole Balkans region and beyond.
Personally, I don't like wine much at all, but between red and white, I prefer red.
The only type of wine serving which I liked consuming is the sweet cooked red wine with some special seasoning aroma, served hot.
I tried it a year ago in a restaurant on a mountain nearby and I really liked it.
Yes, I think that there is a time and place for drinking wine. Good and pleasant social settings and gatherings, good meals and feasts, family and friends gatherings, reasons for celebrations... etc.
In my culture it's still expected of women to drink less than men, but I think that should all be a personal choice, like with everything else. Although it's always good for anyone to know limits, like with everything else, as well.
