Kill "dead profiles"?
Hello,
I wonder if this subject already has been discussed. At least, I did not find it on the first channel page.
There are many profiles on mailfriends.com which seem to be forgotten. Their users of them have not logged in for over a year and I do not expect them to log in ever again. Still, these users are shown in the small pictures on the right hand side on top of the page.
It's - of course - useless to write them any PM. So actually, one should ask why they are shown. There should be a kind of filter, so that only users who have been online at least once within the last four weeks will be shown there.
Moreover, not all users read profiles enough carefully. They just see a nice profile and send a message to its user, which will of course never be seen and answered - because the user has been offline from mailfriends.com for over a year and actually will never return.
And do the mailfriends servers actually have to carry such a lot of data trash of profiles which are not used at all any more?
Mailfriends should handle it like this: After one year of inactivity, the server automatically generates an E-Mail containing a reminder of his mailfriends membership and that he will lose his profile if he will not log in at least once within the next four weeks and sends it to the E-Mail-address given by the user when he joined the community.
If the E-Mail is returned with an error notification or the user does not log in within that time, his profile will be deleted by the server.
What do you think about that?

... one year of inactivity is way too long!!!! Give them 3 months at the most and then send them a warning that they need to log in within a week else they will have their profile deleted .....

3 months is way too short. Definitely. Then some people will finally delete their profiles because they are annoyed. Sometimes, you have to do something more important than just check your mailfriends mails every day. And sometimes, you're more free in your time and spend a lot of days here.
Some people become very ill or travel for many months. Finally, there is no use in deleting them if they finally will return to mailfriends one day. Even I have phases of activity and inactivity, but I do not want to lose my profile at all.
The 3 months rule seems to be a typical demand of a mailfriends addict. ![]()
First you have to look at the website. It is free, with no contributions. Then the format would have to be re-written, who's going to do that for free? Those old profiles bug me too. Someone needs to clean house. Who will it be??

@ huks1980 - so what are u suggesting? it not jus the mf's addicts who want active profiles and active i would see as in those that log in within a month actually ..... 3 months i was actually being kind
... who wants to go to a site to meet friends who dont respond within months? thats not the purpose i see of friendships sites when people are inactive for such a long period of time

Personally, I agree with the one year idea. I travel a lot ..and this up coming trip will be a year long one... I may or may not be able to check my mailfriends regularly but I certainly dont want to have my account deleted. I've met many people on here and I have kept in touch ..and still plan to (when I can) on mailfriends. And I know Im not the only user who travels and cant regularly sign in..
I would say 6months! not tree and not a year! everybody happy! ![]()

I think what you wrote makes a lot of sense. If you can't come in at least once a year to check your profile and you do not answer an email for you to do so the profile should be deleted.
Basically the admins want Mailfriends to appear popular despite it's decreasing patronage. There are several ways of accomplishing this... One involves retaining old dead profiles thus making it appear there are over 70000+ members growing in number every day.
Will things ever be cleaned up? Not for the forseeable future, because if you did clean out all the dead profiles people might get quite a shock at seeing how few actually remained.
i totally agree with huks1980 ,these domain profiles should be deleted.
I came across a user today that hasn't logged in in 2 years and 9 weeks....hahahaha...I think it's time to clean up the inactive users....it's been needed for a long time...but you know what...it's not wanted to be done...so why beat a dead horse?

We should start up a competition... find the deadest user.

I totaly agree.
Yes this has been discussed before, and the site use to delete profiles that hadnt been used on over 3months.
We now have profiles that havent been visited in years that are still classed as active users.
Now I know a lot of sites never delete their members....fine. but for a site like there where people are actually looking for friends....the profiles should become inactive, and require re-activation if the members wishes to return.
