Giving up smoking

How did u do it?

What was your reasons to quit in the first place?

Did u jus quit and say 'no more ciggys for me' and manage never to touch another one again.

Or did u have to go on some kinda nicotine replacement? If so what did u try? and how successful was it?

If u gave up and then started again - what was the trigger for you to make u pick up the next ciggy?

I totally respect anyone who gives up cigarettes. it's not easy, but it's so worthwhile for both your health and those around you.

My mate at work has recently given up cigarettes and is using the Nicorette patches, which she gets free from her doctor. she is doing really well, so I hope she keeps it up.

Hi, I switched to pipe last year. No cigarettes any more, works well.

Wish you the best,
Chris

I had tried several times, but I never succeeded so far to stop. In the first place, but I would stop because of my health and well, a small side effect would also be the money. I had succeeded at least once for 2 months, but then I backslid again.

I smoked for 14 years and I gave it up last year, just like that. It was easy even if I thought it would be hard cause I had heard about other smokers stories and I was almost sure it would be a nightmare. I realized how awful it is a lady with such a bad habit and all negative things it implies. So , if u know something might kill u, why u do it? All u need is the complete desire to quit. Fortunately I could and I don’t need it anymore.

maleJanus_ | 6 April 2008 - 12:25am

@ Anah: what negative things does smoking imply?

Janus: Well... The negative health consequences of smoking cigarettes are well known ... I guess! Smile

maleJanus_ | 6 April 2008 - 10:11pm

@ Anah: Maybe I just misunderstood. I know smoking isn't the most healthy thing to do, but does it imply any other bad thing about a smoker?

Its a bad habit for both men and women.... what negative things does it apply if u a smoker and a women?
I guess its cos its an addiction even when u know it can cause u bad health, sometimes the stress of quitting could be bad for ya too Laughing

I don't know what's the problem. Giving up smoking is the most easy thing in the world. Smile I practice it every day at least ten times. Smile

I've never quited smoking (but that's a personal option)
I 'll just describe a medication method that maybe works, or it won't for some people
No advertiisng here...but that is Zyban, an anti-depressant incidentally "found to cure" smoking/nicotine
addiction...(can't tell, my wife tried it, she's back on ciggys again...but a buddy of mine quited it for god
after that treatment)..............
Next step could be lobotomy ?

Zyban can be prescribed for smoking cessation...but someone has to be strongly determined to quit this habit/addiction..in the 9 first weeks of treatment you should - gradually- reduce it and eventually stop smoking..if nothing happens,it is recommended to stop taking this medication...after all, it's an anti-depressant with all its pros and cons.
On this, I recommend this website : askapatient.com, where users of numerous drugs comment their experiences and rate their efficience+the side effects

femaleserenity_1 | 10 May 2008 - 10:44pm

I was actually told by the nurse that the oral medications (dont know which brands thou) are good but if u suffer any form of depression that it can worsen the effects
