should rapists be neutered?
i would like to know your comments on my views that any one convicted of rape should be surgically neutered.

Surgically sounds kind of clean and professional. I'd rather see it done on some market square with a blunt machete or something.

I had to think about it for a while, but no, i don't think so.

At first thought the answer is yes of course. I've had friends who have been raped and its probably a good thing they wouldn't tell me who the guy was. Of course these are feelings of revenge and like someone else mentioned before it wouldn't stop them from committing acts. Most rapes are not about the sexual act, its about power and control. Having discussed this in several classes and given it much thought what should be done is looked at why they commit such acts, usually do to some long lasting issues. An attempt to help them recover from these would be best, that failing then having them secluded from society. There have been attempts at neutering offenders with mixed results.
Why castrate them... just round them up and the pedophiles and shoot them. I have no time for these sick people.

Good idea.
Probably not worth going through the expense of the surgery, perhaps thay should live through the pain of being awake

Then again, they might actually enjoy it?!?!?

Considering the way rape today is defined as lowering your eyeline below the neck level of another person without their full and written consent signed by at least three witnesses, I can't support the idea of castration.
However bilaterally this subject might be discussed, to me, this is what it all boils down to. What if therapy and socilazation fails?
Sure, society should look at the individual cases critically and not right out scream “burn them at the stake” (unless you want to go back to the dark ages).
No, I do not believe either that castrating anyone will make a change in their minds. Therapy, I don’t know to which extent rapist and especially people who go after children can successfully therapised; I wish it could be that easy.
However, after all, there are two dishes on a scale,
one with people who might have/had (been) strain(ed) in their lives but they have raped people or even abused children
and one the other weighing dish there are the people who are violated, suffering a deep impact on their lives up to the point that their lives are destroyed and/or on their families.
Which side weighs heavier? I do not think I would want to explain to parents why their child was murdered by a previously convicted child abuser, even if it was only one in twenty and I am afraid the ods are even worse)
It is not worth taking the chance to have any of this happening to a person, a family or parents, even at the cost of somebody who might have had the chance to socialize.
Although I cannot come up with a better solution either than locking them away if they show the psychological profile of a repeat offender, castration, death penalty, chopping hands off, to stone somebody to death is not a solution for anything (sorry, people)

No, they should be catched, interrogated, and thrown into the lions for fun. If they survived, god is with them. Not guilty. end.

Reasearch has shown in cases of voluntary castration that it drastically decreases testosterone, the downside?? it can be bought over the counter in any pharmacy..

me too
I agree
ok this is even better
Precautions are necessary as well, rapes should never be allowed to happen in the first place, about 50% of the rapes committed in my country are performed by immigrants from muslim countries and for the past 20 years the amount of rapes has increased with almost 500%. Northern africa and middle east are at the very top of the statistics, to stop immigrations from these countries would lower the amount of rapes significantly.

Castration, no. We have to go more deeper into the parts of the brain that sets off these preverted sexual desirers. I think they would be perfect subjects for scientific exploration of the brain. Scientific academies would love these living specimens.. ![]()

You mean, using them as guinea pigs?
gee. Like keeping them in jail with electrodes and stuff. Sounds like a plot for a regular video game.

What do you think would be a better deterrent? In a crime such as rape, the perpetrator has decided to take what they want, totally violating another human life in the process. Why should he be given any different treatment? Castration doesn't solve the problem and neither does housing these individuals and tending to their needs as they serve their time.
Guinea pigs didn't do anything wrong and they are experimented on, these animals did.

I think the worst two things you can do in life is to kill and to rape somebody. This is just because in both, you take away the only real thing the other person has which is the will to live. Our body is the only thing that we actually own until we die, our own property, our house.
Then you kill the raper and you continue the circle of killing, the difference is that your killing would be justified. right?
This is a point which i dont think there's a solution. Whether you castrate, kill, manipulate, study, or whatever thing you do with the raper, it doesnt solve the rapes problem. We've witenessed that so far, there are still rapes, and they will probably keep going on. It is in the human condition to be violent, to be a predator, to punish, to defend, to fight back, to destroy, etc, raise your hand the ones that think we've have "evolved", no way!... all the sollutions we might find out, will they really end once for all with the problem? Maybe achieve some control, but no, in one point all of them become contradictory.
For example (a minute of silence for guinea pigs)...who are we anyway to decide a guinea pig must die in the name of discoveries? You're killing a living thing with an excuse
do you get the point? we play to be the evolved race of the planet, but still do the same thing as in thousands of years ago, only with more technology.
Well, synthetizing, i dont think there's a solution for rapes nor for rapists. Maybe taking always care of yourself would be the best you can do....

Ahh, lol, I still like your earlier comment of watching the lions dine out.
I think many of these people that feel they can violate anyone they choose, know they can get off, if caught with a simple jail term. It's quite surprising the rights and privileges these people hold while being incarcerated. Many do their time, get let out and rape again. The fear of the end result for their actions is not there. Maybe if they knew what could be in store for them, they might think twice.
The present methods certainly aren't working.

Agree agree
and that's why i tell ya all of the solutions become contradictory, and finally they dont work. Btw, the lions comment was part of my natural violent self which i don't like.

Lob their heads off.
No chance of re-offending and it's cheaper!
I said before, I would not want to give these people (who are definitely afflicted with a severe disorder) the benefit of the doubt and take the chance that they might destroy the life of others.
However, you people scare me. So self-righteous, so without flaws, so ready for revenge and every kind of cruelty. Eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, hallelujah!
For sure almost all of these people need to be locked away forever and I agree that in doing so they should not cost society money. So what is wrong with locking them away and make them work for their living? If they want to eat, they have to work, that is how it is for all of us.

It's your tax dollars that supports these individuals in prison and also your tax dollars that give them a monthly salary for the work they preform inside. When they get a release many do commits these crimes again even though your money paid for their rehabilitation. Do you think this was money well spent?
Now who protects and supports the victims?
Like someone said before, I guess we have to watch out for our own safely and always be on our guard. Confining life isn't it?

If you referred to what I wrote, Leaa, I think you might have misunderstood me because I think, I made pretty clear that
A: I do believe that most of these people cannot be rehabilitated and therefore should be locked away forever, as I am not willing to take the chance that they might destroy somebody else’s life and
B: they should not cost any tax money but work for the costs that arise from their detainment.

maybe so, but we have to be realistic, locking away forever or not costing tax money will never happen. It is a hard call and things will certainly not change if society thinks they are solving these problems adequately so far. It is just too bad that the innocent have to always be on their guard for their own safety. Who really is in prison?

I really hesitated very long to join the discussion. The range of what one may call "rape" is very wide. I think we are only talking about people who violently broke the will of anybody. And in this case, really only in this case of rape I would suggest death punishment.
I have to agree with Johnsky, however the only problem being(especially here in North America) is that you have all these perps in jail, who won't be released and its the tax dollars that are keeping them in jail. It is a hard line to draw, as with the countries and states that don't have the death penaty. You have all these lifers in prison being supported by our tax dollars. Is there really a suitable answer?![]()
