Couchsurfing seems to work for the people I know who use it. My french pal and a Belgian i know have had success and it saves a lot of course.

The 3000 Euros should be good but if you see stuff you'd like to take home then you might need some help from Mr. Visa or Mastercard. Especially if you go to England.
