German politician offering a suicide machine !
“The machine is simply an option for fatally ill people,” said Dr Kusch, 53, presenting the green machine that looks like a cross between an electric transformer and a paint spraygun. “Nobody is forced to use it but I do believe that it will contribute to a debate that is moving thousands of people.”
The machine would be lent or rented so that the patients could insert the needles themselves and then push the button releasing the potassium chloride, used to execute Death Row prisoners in some US states. Supporters say the machine will bring about death in seconds. Death Row cases suggest the process could be longer. One of the responsibilities of the organisation lending the machine will be to consult with doctors about the exact dosage.
German politicians, the medical community and especially churches are outraged by Kusch’s presentation of the killing machine.
“It is against the spirit of our ethics, the spirit of our ethical tradition, the spirit of the Christian image of a human person and against the spirit of our law,” Wolfgang Huber, the head of Germany’s Lutheran Church, told CNN.
“To those who criticize me, I say: it is NONE of your business ! ” Kusch said angrily when confronted with the criticism. He says churches and politicians are using phony and cynical arguments and that he believes a majority of Germans have already accepted assisted suicide as an option.

I'll sign in for the first one to sell.
I'd rather see an arrangement for euthanasia like the Netherlands has at the moment.
Here only under strict conditions there is a possibility for assisted suicide. However, before anything can happen there is a long and thorough procedure (paperwork, talks with a psychologist, etc, etc.).
Ultimately the act itself is performed by medical staff.
It's only possible for cases where there is "unbearable suffering".
Of a physical nature, I'm not sure whether it is extended to psychological suffering.
I think this is an arrangement that is to be preferred above any "do-it-yourself"-suicide. But on the other hand, what to do if you live in a country where no such procedure exists?
You might still want to use that German doctor's machine.

Please refer to this guy as an Ex-politician! Referring to him as a politician sounds like the government promotes this stuff which is obviously untrue.
He once was a politician but is now only a lobbyist. As the full article says, this sort of suicide support is illegal in Germany and i doubt that it will ever be allowed like it is in Switzerland. Actually the article even explains that too.
And just for the record, the whole issue is rather a tempest in a teacup and has by far not the public attention as the article suggests.

I prefer the word Euthanasia to Suicide. Imagine if you were in agonizing pain from a terminal illness. Would you want the option of euthanasia? Then there are Passive and Active Euthanasia, and Voluntary and Involuntary. Active Involuntary Euthanasia is murder. The reason must be for the best interests of the patient. I think Euthanasia should be an option. I'm not sure of the laws or rules in the Netherlands, but I would be interested to learn them.

However, its about Germany and german laws here. And i doubt that they will change,

If the right dosage can be used it would certainly be a good solution for some people. Like the case of Chantal Sébire for example in france. Still i think this should be done by a doctor though but if some countries don't allow that because it's considered murder then this machine could be a good option.
