Did you like fairy tales when you were young? Or do you like them even now?

I loved them when I was younger.

femaleRika Kosta | 29 April 2008 - 2:46pm

Fairy tales are not as childlike as they seem at first sight. Sometimes i see cartoons by Russian fairy tales and every time i am surprised by it`s wisdom and it`s evident that they wasn`t written only for children)))
Though i`m convinced that every adult has his own fairy tale he loves and believes, even if he doesn`t think it`s fairy tale Smile

Yes, I loved them, then pretended I was living that life of happily ever after. I guess I still have a few years left to dream... Smile

femaleSeagull_J_L | 29 April 2008 - 4:47pm

Yes, I have always loved them. Smile When I was a child and today, too.

femalekerriejane | 29 April 2008 - 5:07pm

i love fairytales, even now and my daughter loves them also.

maleDetroit-Escalat... | 29 April 2008 - 5:33pm

Yes, I liked "The little Match Girl" by Andersen.
I cried my eyes out when I heard it for the first time. It was so sad!
I was 6 or 7 years old then.

Don't like fairytales anymore, I'm afraid.
I've been too much hardened by reality.... Smile

Fairy tales are quite nice and interesting to read, because someone who "invented" them had lots of fantasy and those stories mostly survive the time, no matter what event occur.

femalestar_princess | 30 April 2008 - 10:09pm

i liked hearing about them cuz i thought they were nice stories. i still like them.
that's all they are to me though. thank goodness i was never forced to believe that fairy tales were real like most parents seem to.

Sure I did and still do. I read fairytales from all kinds of cultures, it is very interesting how much alike they are and where and how they differ.
And it is right, originally fairytales were not written for kids.
Kind of funny, all the surrealism and cruelty in the stories …burned in oven, tarred and feathered, a talking head of a horse nailed to a portal, rolled down a hill in a barrel spiked with nails and and and. People would go on a riot nowadays but in as much as I can tell it did not do any damage to me as a child. How about you?

Yup, but only the good versions. With all the horror stuff, like where the which screams while being burned in the oven (Hans und Gretel) Or the naked New clothes of the emperor or where the wolfs get their feet cut off by King Lion... uh (Reinaert, but that's actually a fable, still good though)

The nice start like this goes to a lot of russian fairy tales. Yes, i like age-old fairy tales, but my favourite is modern russian fairy tale 'Skazka pro Fedota-striltsa ydalova maladtsa' by L.Filavov, with use of traditional russian characters. The smart thing that full of hard-edged satire.

We're all grown ups now. When did that happen? And how do we make it stop?

femalesophala | 24 May 2008 - 12:42pm

I didn't really like the fairytales when I was younger - never felt much like a princess I guess... Sticking out tongue
But now, I'm totally fond of them - especially of those from other countries like China (really bloody!) and the old nordic tales (really, really bloody! Laughing)!
