Hardest Lingo???
Which 5 languages or language groups would you consider to be the hardest (most difficult) to learn??
For me I guess it would be something like:
1. Oriental Langs (Thai, Chinese, Korean, etc)
2. South Indian Langs (esp, Malayalam and Telegu)
3. Arabic, Turkish, Hebrew, etc...
4. Ancient Langs (Egyptian, Aztec, etc)
5. Euro-Cryllic Langs (Russian, Greek, etc)

Yes, I think "difficult" here depends on the person.
For me difficult would mean learning a language:
- that is of a totally different language family than my own
- that would have a writing system of its own
- where the country's culture would be totally different (so not only I'd have to learn what to say, but also when it is appropriate to say it)
I think based on these criteria Japanese comes to mind.

Languages like Chinese because its a tone-language and languages with a lot of grammar.
Mwah ... First of all I should know all these languages, which I unlikely do. But at the moment I would say, it is Finnish for me
, because it's not similiar to Germanic languages.
Hungarian for me is very challenging for me!

Wooow... new division of language groups. Turkish and Arab are nothing alike. Neither are Greek and Slavic languages. (Greeks don't write Cirillic)
The Finno-Ugrian seem tough to me: 16 cases in Finnish, something alike in Hungarian.Sino-Tibetan languages often have a script that is very hard to learn, and all those tones. Uh! And the Slavic languages have verb trouble.

My God it wasn't supposed to be an essay question...

Dont make such a big deal about it just answer the question or dont.
I know Greeks dont write Cryillic...I wrote Euro-Cryillic (meaning European and Cryillic langs).

Based on what factors?
In my opinion there is no such thing as any language being "the most difficult." There simply are too many variables to consider: mother tongue, previous foreign language learning and when this was initiated (brain development comes into play here), biases (for better or worse), inclination and talent for learning foreign languages, reason for learning a foreign language, teacher's ability, experience and temperament in dealing with the students, etc. This list is by no means exhaustive.
