Horror in Austria !

The Fritzl incest case emerged in late April 2008 when a 42-year-old Austrian woman, Elisabeth Fritzl, told police that she had been sexually abused, raped, and physically assaulted by her father, Josef Fritzl, since 1977 and had been imprisoned by him since 1984.

Austrian police say her father kept her for 24 years in a small soundproofed cellar with four beds and a bathroom. It extended beneath the family house in a village near the town of Amstetten in Lower Austria. In that cellar, she gave birth to a total of seven children (including twins, one of whom died) all of whom had been fathered by Josef.
Three of them had been imprisoned with their mother their whole lives when they were found—daughter Kerstin and sons Stefan and Felix, who were aged 19, 18, and 5, respectively. The other three (Lisa, Monika, and Alexander) were cared for by Josef and his wife Rosemarie in the house upstairs, after Fritzl engineered their appearance to make it seem that they had been left, at the doorstep, as infants by Elisabeth.

Mr Fritzl, 73, is in custody after admitting to having kept daughter Elisabeth, 42, as a sex slave in a concrete bunker beneath his house for 24 years and to producing seven children with her.

It was also reported that the monster humiliated his wife at a swingers club by forcing her to watch him have sex with another woman.

He is likely to be charged with manslaughter after admitting in a statement made public by his lawyer that one of the children he had with his own daughter died shortly after birth without medical attention.

High Austrian leaders have publicly expressed their concerns. An International campaign will be launched to try and restore Austria's tarnished reputation...

Old news...but Fritzl did use the classic "It wasn't me..it was the Nazi's that made me do it" line.

7574 articles on Google news by just showing yesterday's results. Not bad at all for 'old news' ! Oooh!

Yeuch.
This news really disgusted me so much when it first appear in our local newspaper, along with Josef's pic.
Even disturbing is the fact that he cremated one of his child after it died.
I was surprised no one mentioned this earlier.
I wonder what his child called him, grandfather or father?

i also think that this is old news. here in germany we hear about it every day for 2 weeks now. the best quote was, that he said he wanted to protect his daughter from drugs, alcohol and other harm and therefore he put her in the cellar.
but what about the woman who had put 3 babies into a freezer? that's a little more up to date. the teenage son founded them when he was searching for a pizza. one baby was rolled up in a newspaper from 1988. now they prove when the kids were born and if they lived after birth.

I don't remember hearing that sentence somewhere in the news!

Certainly it seems to be somewhat old news, but it is still very topical and shocking. It is incomprehensible and inconceivable how someone can survive so long under such circumstances without someone is unaware of it. Leave alone the motives of Fritzl why he has done that.

I suppose no one bothered to post it because it's probably one of the few news stories literally everyone would agree on..

After the whole initial shock of trying to digest all the loathsome details...you just can't help wondering how this monster was able to pull off this deception for so many years..
That's pretty frightening..
And I also can't help wondering if the daughter and the offspring will ever be able to manage to have any semblance of any kind of normal life..
Why he did it? He's a monster...we'll never be able to follow the brain pattern of such a person capable of such an act
Actually, hardly a person at all.

No matter where anyone stands on crime and punishment..the death penalty..etc..
this seems to be one of those crimes that evokes the hope for the very worst for this man.

Actually the guy is saying 'I must have been crazy'. His lawyer is saying that Fritzl can be considered certifiably insane...In this case, he would go to a psychiatric institution rather than a prison. Another classic strategy.

Mentally ill ?! With such a high degree of sadism and sophisticated torture methods ?

A man who manged to hold all those persons for years without even arising suspicion ? He was very clever
indeed.

We could dedicate the song 'Animal I've become' to this guy. It describes 'him' very well.

With all due respect to animals. Wink

I am not surprised. It's very embarrassing for countries with a Nazi past. It implies collective responsibility, collective guilt...

He was probably referring to those articles :

Fritzl blames Hitler for incest with daughter

A nose for Nazis

In the shadow of the swastika

Thanks Sky for the articles. But really, I haven't heard of that before in the media ... till now. Nevertheless, this man has to be blamed for what he has done, no matter what influenced him.

He's not an animal..he is a human being who knew what he was doing was wrong that is what makes him truly evil.
