Music of yesterday vs music today!

I just love the old rock and roll music and I get my housework done very quickly when I am listening to it, but I just can't handle some of the headbanging music that is out there today. I can't hear the words, or the words don't make sense to me. I just hear a lot of screaming. I am not saying all the music today is like that just some. Give me Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checkers, Give me hoola hoops!!! lol I liked the 50s and 60s.

hmm I don't really agree to that. There are many many artists with great music. Which isn't loud or headbanging like. Although my parents would agree with you Razz

Oh! yes, I rely almost entirely on old music for entertainment. I do not despise modern (or should be post-post-modern?) stuff, but you know, I master a lot of good music and there's too little time to enjoy it all, so there's even less time to try new things. But I have a lot of friends that help me with this, they send me links with new stuff attached, there's always something interesting to hear. But yes, I consider myself and old timer musician and music listener. But my range is wider. I hear through classical music to early 21st century (earlier than now, I mean Laughing). My favorites are in the 60's, 70's, and in the 90's of 20th century. Jerry Lee and Chubby were good, who would deny it? But plain rock and roll is too simple for me nowadays, I need something with more meat in its bones.

The music of today I like has its origins often in the sixties and or seventies anyways.

I see it as a kind of mixed bag. There's a lot of old music i dislike, but probably more modern music that i hate. There was crap back then and there's crap now, but there's a lot of modern stuff that i just can't stand, and the crowd-pleasing, pop stuff just seems worse than ever. I don't see it through rose tinted glasses though; i know there was a large amount of crap in every decade, particularly the '80s for me. But then again, some of my favourite songs are from that era. Very happy

I am suffering from arrested development when it comes to music. In addition to C&W up to the end of the eighties, my perennial favorites are operatic arias and some of the classical Italian songs. However, occasionally, I catch a present day tune that seems to pluck at my strings. The last one was a group of young boys on Youtube playing a marimba tune on instruments made from PVC pipes......worth checking out.
