I always am under the impression that the underground music is bigger but more diverse and scattered...therefor you dont see how big that world actually is in the charts. Cuz...most people dont like the charts...

i would say around here alternative rock is most popular, classic rock too... pop shows come to town but they're not all that well attended, rock shows that come to town sell out and theres quite the dedicated group of people that go to all the smaller rock shows at the bars and all the local bands..

having said that, a lot of rap/ hip-hop and pop acts go to Toronto and montreal.. so thats right up there too but i still think it might be rock overall in Canada

I guess you are right about the dance/trance although I dont like it myself at all,you also hear a lot of rap.

At the moment very much the Dutch language pop and rock, more than ever. Dance, tectonic, but also folk is quite popular (ethnic music, i mean)

It is very difficult to know, because we are such a multi-cultural country there probably isn't just one popular kind of music, the east coast of Canada has its own thing going on, Quebec(which is a country in its own mind ) has Celine or French Folk which is kind of toe-tapping,and that is good music, you have the prairies which is probably a lot of country and western, and finally, you have the west coast like British Columbia which has it own kind of music going on. So, it is difficult to pick just one kind of music. I think all music is loved here, as is everywhere.
