Actually, you can give anything as gifts that you give to your other friends (I mean, not Chinese.)
If she were your very close friend, you could ask her what she needs. We can also give (to very close friends or relatives) TV, Hi-fi system, Fridge, washing machine,... I mean things a newly married couple need in their new home.
However, the easiest and simplest gift should be cash/cheque in a Red/Lucky Bag. It is better as buying gifts may not what they want/need. They can use the money to buy what they want/need.
And as the person above said... no number 4, number 3 (some people don't like), 6 and/or 8 are best.

nice sharing thanks. travesti

Usually people give good luck money (in those red envelopes) or jewellery (usually gold necklaces also placed in those red envelopes) to the bride on her wedding day. Any type of present in red is good. Avoid white and black colours. Don't give them anything in a set of four or anything considered dangerous (such as silverware/cutlery) because that's bad luck. Four is an unlucky number but 8 is a good luck number. Some people also say don't give them anything like a clock or a bell because it's bad luck.
Anything with a Chinese Dragon (guy) and Phoenix (girl) motif is very nice.
