More About Me

Trust the Holy Spirit... Life is a remarkable, irreplaceable gift. Only God can give it; only God can extend it even for a second. Yet at times we take the gift for granted and fail to appreciate its full worth. With far too great an ease, we may well find ourselves saying things like, “I wish I were dead,” or “There’s nothing more to live for.” When those dark days come to you, step outside yourself and see what the Lord sees — in you, around you, and in your future. Trust his vision, and walk with him out of the darkness and into the light. The search for happiness is a lifelong quest with outcomes as numerous and varied as the people in the world. Some folks are content with the simplest of lives, while others are congenitally dissatisfied no matter what their circumstance. Some people find the true source of happiness early in their lives, while others still have no clue as they lie on their deathbeds. For some, the quest begins well and then falters in the face of adversity. One of the greatest fears that a human being can experience is the fear of being abandoned by family and friends and being left to live one's life all alone. To be cut off from human contact is immensely painful, but it pales when compared to being cut off from God. And yet that is the daily experience of too many of God's children, wandering about this earth with no sense of any larger purpose or destiny and no vision beyond the blank wall of death. What a tragedy, and how unnecessary it is! Jesus long ago spoke for us all when He said, "I can never be alone; the Father is with Me." He is with us, within us, always — healing, comforting, strengthening, enlightening, encouraging, and guiding. He is with us always, and we'll never be alone — not in the deepest cell or on the darkest night. It brings back memories of countless past joys and presses them together so they're all felt at once. It brings back regrets too, and renders them all the more poignant, because now they're beyond reach. Saying goodbye closes many doors, but it opens new ones as well. Closing doors are easier to see than those that are just opening. This seems always to be the case. But the new doors are there, waiting for us to walk through them and to carry on where another has left off. It is always so, generation after generation. Why are the reactions so very different from people of similar backgrounds? The answer lies inside, in the fear-driven rigidity and brittleness of the one group and in the hope-driven confidence and openness of the other. Let faith open your inner doors to the Spirit who brings growth, change, and joy.
Love is...

God

It's good to have...

God

It's good to have...

The goodness that we are and that we can be is what God wants us to see and to hope in. He wants us to let go of the fear that whispers, "You're nothing and you never will be anything." He wants us to let go of our masks and let go of our carefully crafted images and instead share with one another our real selves — not just the best parts, but our unfinished parts as well.

But why is this seeing and sharing of our true selves so important? Because without it there can be no joy, no friendship, no growing up, and no growing into family.

There can be no joy in loving or being loved if we know that what is loved is only a mask. There can be no friendship — no meeting of minds and hearts — if we keep our minds and hearts safely hidden. There can be no growing toward wholeness if what needs to be helped or healed is ignored, denied or covered up. And there can be no growing into family if we refuse to share what we are, what we have, and what we're struggling with.
The peace that Jesus gives is the peace of perspective, of seeing all things in the light of our profound conviction that the Lord loves us, walks with us, and will always give us what we need. It's the inner quiet that comes from knowing that "for those who love God, all things work for the good."

Trust that, and you will know His peace.

God never rejects anyone. Even on our worst days He still calls us by name and holds out His hand to us. It's not God who turns away, it's we ourselves who reject His hand and close our ears to His voice. And in doing so, we cut ourselves off from the source of life and joy.
