Remember it's the things in common that matter - not so much the common things. It DOES take more than a note or two 2 discover these comman links. We're not really looking for clones, are we ? Also this is not a personals or dating site. I am trying to understand why all the restrictions on responses, i.e. no men, no one married or single or from some certain places or over or under a certain age / sex, etc.. This is a correspondence medium and should be a place for different people to mix together that woudn't ordinarily have the opportunity or chance to meet in real life, right ?
I used to worry about this similiar-interest thing. I found out two things. First it takes more than a single mail or two to realize if there is anything in common. Second I found out that with 99.6% of all perspective penpallers, I would NOT find things in common with. So if I wasn't careful, I would only be able to talk to the remaining .4 %. That would mean I would be on a forever quest and end up with no pen pals to speak of. So I realized I had to change my perspective and start to talk about ME and hope the other person woiuld do the same. Making the mail personal w/o GETTING personal is the trick. So many don't know how to do this, and if u can get past this point, so many might not want to do this. I mean it takes trust and courage to open up w/o worrying about judgements and ridicule. So I now worry more about getting to know others by talking about ourselves in a way that will create - over time - a bond that we can both enjoy and worry a lot less about those elusive things-in-common. THEN after all this I sometimes do find we have things in common. I am surprised about the discovery when I worry so much less about the search. |
