Does your country support the death penalty?

There have been calls in England for it to be brought back in the response to the number of killings (people stabbed on streets, outside their own homes etc).
Does your country have the death penalty?

Do you think it deters criminals?

Do you think it should only be applicable to certain members of society ie: paedophiles and repeat rapists?

I'd prefer if this stayed in World News

'Pregnant man' Thomas Beatie gives birth to baby girl

Quote:

The pregnant man who conceived a child after a gender-reassignment operation has apparently given birth to a healthy baby girl.

“She’s really cute, really pretty,” a source told ABC News.

Thomas Beatie, 34, told People magazine that he had given birth at a hospital in Bend, Oregon on Sunday. “The only thing different about me is that I can’t breastfeed my baby. But a lot of mothers don’t,” he said, adding that he planned to publish a book about the experience this autumn.

The bearded Mr Beatie was born a girl and named Tracy Lagondino, but had gender-reassignment surgery and is now legally male and married to Nancy. The couple, together for ten years, run a custom screenprinting business in Bend.

Can someone explain the situation in Italy at the moment

Is Silvio Berlusconi well liked by the voters? Is his policies as well? What's the problem with the Roma there? Are they that big a nuisance or danger to society? Lay on me the facts.

What does the rest of the world think about Obama/McCain

Everyone is thinking it and expressing an opinion, whether they know much or not. Everyone i meet seem to ask what i think about them and i just say give me time to read up on both. Alot of people (mainly young and older Euros) i know in Norway, Sweden, Holland want Obama. Yet they dont list an actual reason other than he being a "new force". So what do you think? What does the international community think about the candidates and the upcoming election?

What is the matter with political correctness

What is wrong with it? Does it pressure free speech or individual thoughts on issues pertaining to diverse groups? Has it ever been useful? Or has it been used as a tool to help but unfortunately has isolated?

Serbia captures fugitive Karadzic

Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, one of the world's most wanted men, has been arrested in Serbia after more than a decade on the run.

The Bosnian Serb wartime political leader disappeared in 1996.

He has been indicted by the UN tribunal for war crimes and genocide over the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica.

The appointment of a new, pro-European government in Belgrade last month appears to have cleared the way for his arrest, says a BBC correspondent.

The European Union, which the new government hopes to join, has put Serbia under considerable pressure to hand over indicted war criminals to the UN tribunal in The Hague.

Another Church (Mosque in this case) and State Horror

Taken from the National Post July 18, 2008 page A9

Saudi textbooks still filled with ‘toxic teaching’

Despite a promise to remove attacks on other faiths from the public school curriculum, Saudi Arabia’s state-produced textbooks still refer to Jews and Christians as apes and swine, insist that Jews conspire to take over the world and on Judgment Day “the rocks or the trees” will call out to Muslims to kill the Jews, says the Washington-based Hudson Institute, a conservative think-tank.
The textbooks, used by five million students in the kingdom every year, as well as in many Saudi-funded institutions outside the country, also attack homosexuals and Muslims who do not practise a fundamentalist form of Islam. For example: “The punishment for homosexuality is death. The companions of the Prophet were unanimous on killing although they differed ... in the manner of killing. Some companions ... stated that a homosexual is to be burned with fire ... he should be stoned or thrown from a high place.”
