Help, my pussy is breaking the scale!

I have a tabby house cat that is 8 years old and is huge. She tips the scales at 22lb. I have put her on a low diet cat food, but still nothing seems to work, she sneaks and tries to eat the dog food when I'm not looking. When I hide all the food, my other cat that is 12 has low blood sugar has to eat often, so I have to keep the food out all the time. I am thinking my fat cat might be a diabetic and should get some blood tests run. Any ideas?

A Walk in Nature

There are many people that love to walk and hike. Where is your favorite place to walk?

Do you have an ideal nature walk, or do you just have to settle for walking around the block a few times?

would i be mad to get a dog?

I am seriously considering getting a small dog ( a jack russell probly) ... I have had one of those for 15 years before ....

My kids are getting older and are more interested in helping ie. walking the dog, feeding the dog, playing with the dog...

My problem is that i work (in a school but hours are short but i can get home lunchtime to let dog out/check its ok)

i wasnt thinking of getting a puppy - maybe a little older who may not quite need quite the attention as much as a young puppy.....

It would be well loved, walked everyday (probly morning and evening)

so am i mad to consider this??

Conscience Plants

Do you think plants have a conscience? A mind of some kind? It has been proved that plants can feel pain. That they react to touch and other stimuli.
But...could it be anything more than that, which we havent learnt yet?

Have you ever played midwife?

There was a traumatic event at my house this past weekend. My Wife and I own four Chihuahuas and we are on friendly terms with the breeder of three of them. We bought the mother from the breeder and then mated one of her males with her. We kept two of the resulting four pups.

Naturally, who would the breeder ask to dog-sit a few of her females while she and her husband went to a family reunion a few hundred miles away? You’re right…..my Wife and I…..not that I objected very much. That, by itself, would have been no big deal except that one of the females was very pregnant…..was due to deliver any day. The breeder and her vet estimated that she was going to have four pups. To make matters even more complex, this female was sort of “repossessed” from her owners. They mistreated her so badly that she is afraid of nearly everyone; including me…..but not my Wife…..all animals love my Wife.

what do you think about zoos?

do you think that zoo is a good place for animal to stay or do you find it more like prison for them?

once when i was in zoo i cought myself thinking how i like to see animals in their natural environment, if its possible, and that its much better for them. then i realized how hypocrtitical am i(i think ive used the right word)..im visiting zoos while i think how animals are sad there and with that money i bought my ticket for it im like supporting them..since that i havent been there. i support places where people take care for animals that might extinct..i think its our job because its our fault, and i think that safarys are ok..there are animals in their natural anvironment.

Is man a Destroyer?

Would you say we are destructive beings?

Anton Chekhov says the following:

"Man has been endowed with reason, with the power to create, so that he can add to what he's been given. But up to now he hasn't been a creator, only a destroyer. Forests keep disappearing, rivers dry up, wild life's become extinct, the climate's ruined and the land grows poorer and uglier every day."
