What were you taught in school about it? Was it like a 1min lesson and then closed the book and moved on? Do you care at all about the 4th or just see it as a day for us Yankees to be overtly happy?

Concert in Hyde Park

I am curious to know if anyone went to the concert in Hyde Park, for the 90th birthday concert for Nelson Mandela? Wish I could have been there! There was some awsome music going on, Amy Winehouse, love her voice and music, it seems to have a Janis Joplin quality to it, not to mention Queen at the end. I watched the concert on tv and thought it was great. Anybody else have any remarks to make on the concert? If they liked/disliked and why?

Is it "positive" discrimination or a thinly veiled attack?

I don't really think there is such thing as positive discrimination...the whole bill supports the idea of selection based on age, sex and race.

Whilst it is a noble cause...i can't help but think that some one is going to feel the sharp end of the stick..maybe businesses should put up notices "white males not needed"

Although I want to see Edinburgh for sure, I am mainly attracted to the highlands. Hiking, nature, castles, history, culture, canoeing…

London in 4 days

Yes I know four days is way too short to visit a city such as London. Never the less... It's my first trip to the UK and to London. I'll be going half way september and I will be staying in a youth hostel close to Oxford street with 3 friends. Are there things I definitively see ? Where are nice places to eat ? What places are nice to go out

I was watching the local news tonight, and I saw these guys stuff straw up their pantlegs, and then they started to kick each other in the shins. This was a report of the shin kicking championship. Does this really happen? Also people chasing a rolling cheese down a hill, quite bizarre, but the rolling cheese thing looked kind of fun, except if you fell the wrong way you could really hurt yourself.
